The Tampa Bay Lightning will be playing in their third straight road game on Thursday night when they take on the Toronto Maple Leafs. During the 2013-14 season, the Lightning and the Maple Leafs each won two games in their four-game regular season series.
On Tuesday night, the Lightning had their two-game winning streak snapped when they were beaten 5-2 by the New York Islanders. They were outshot 36-28 in that loss and won just 21 of the 52 faceoffs.
The Lightning are currently near the top of the league in scoring with 3.6 goals per game. Center Steven Stamkos has been their best offensive player through 20 games by scoring 12 goals and providing 10 assists. Netminder Ben Bishop is 11-2-2 on the year with a .919 save percentage and a 2.26 GAA.
The Maple Leafs had no answer for the Nashville Predators' offense on Tuesday when they were embarrassed 9-2 in front of their home fans. Goalie Jonathan Bernier started the game, but he gave up three goals on just 12 shots faced.
The Maple Leafs are scoring 3.1 goals per game, but they are also giving up 3.1 goals per game.. Right wing Phil Kessel has led the offense by notching 11 goals and 11 assists through 19 games. Defenseman Cody Franson has also been solid by scoring three goals and providing 10 assists.
