The Washington Capitals continue their road trip on Monday night when they play the New York Islanders in a game between two of the better Eastern Conference offenses. The Caps and the Islanders have each picked up a home win from their two games against each other this season.

The Capitals have now won four out of their last five games after shutting out the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-0 on Saturday. Goalie Braden Holtby had one of his best games of the season in that one, finishing with a 31-save shutout.

Through 25 games, the Capitals are in the top half of the league in both scoring and goals allowed per game. Holtby is now 16-8-5 on the year with three shutouts and a .921 save percentage. Center Nicklas Backstrom is having one of his better seasons by notching 11 goals and 25 assists.

On Saturday night, the Islanders lost their second consecutive game when the Buffalo Sabres defeated them 4-3 in the shootout. They played well for the first two periods in that game, but they allowed the Sabres to score three goals in the third period.

The Islanders haven't played very well on the defensive end of the ice so far this season, but their offense has been one of the best in the conference. Right wing Kyle Okposo has scored eight goals this year and is tied for the team lead in points with 31. Netminder Jaroslav Halak is now 18-6-0 with three shutouts and a .919 save percentage.
