World Cup Group E
Sunday, June 17, 2018
Rostov Arena
Brazil will take on Switzerland at Rostov Arena in a Group E matchup on Sunday, June 17, 2018. The opening line for this World Cup matchup has Brazil at -315 and Switzerland at +1050. The total opened at 2.75. This opening game from Group E will give soccer fans around the globe a chance to see one of the top teams in the world square off a team that many think could take their game to the next level in this tournament. Brazil is looking to show that they are the best squad on the planet, while the Swiss want to show that they have the talent to make it into the next round. Brazil will be big favorites in this particular game, but Switzerland could put up a surprise fight.
Brazil
Brazil breezed through their qualification games, rarely even having to get out of third gear. It's clear that they want to show the world that they have gotten over their embarrassing 7-1 loss to Germany in the last World Cup and that they are ready to redeem themselves. They have a collection of some of the best players in the world on their team, but can they finally put it all together this year and become the team to beat? Brazil enters this year's World Cup as the second-ranked team on the latest FIFA rankings. They will be led by manager Adenor "Tite" Bacchi, who has done a fantastic job since he took the helm, winning 13 of his 17 games in charge, with just one loss.
Neymar
If Neymar wants to be seen as a better player than Ronaldo and Messi, he needs to have a great World Cup performance. The superstar was fantastic in his first season with PSG and you can expect him to do some amazing things in this tournament. If he can stay healthy and is consistently on his game, there's a pretty good chance Brazil will go far and perhaps even win the whole thing.
Willian
Willian plays a huge role for this Brazil team. He's a big ball of energy who usually makes great decisions everywhere on the pitch. He's not the focal point of the team, but that just works in the team's favor since he can pop up just about anywhere and contribute.
Switzerland
What gives the Swiss a chance to do some special things in this year's World Cup is the balance that's spread across the team. They don't have a single superstar, but what they do have is talent at just about every position, which is a very good formula for success. Yes, they are going to have a hard time keeping up with Brazil, but if they can keep those games close enough, they have a very good chance to make it through to the round of 16. Thanks to their fantastic qualifying run and their performances in friendlies since then, Switzerland is currently ranked sixth in the FIFA rankings. Manager Vladimir Petkovic isn't a household name, but he is a highly respected coach after winning 24 of his first 39 games in change of the Swiss outfit.
Haris Seferovic
Seferovic isn't the most talented or feared player on the Swiss team, but the striker most definitely is a key player for them if they are going to do something special in this tournament. They need to be able to score goals to move forward and he is going to need to add on to his 11 goals (in 50 caps) to give them a good chance of getting out of this group.
Xherdan Shaqiri
Shaqiri can do some special things on the football pitch, and you can be pretty sure he'll be involved in at least one or two highlight reel plays during the World Cup. He has his defensive weaknesses, but put him around the box and he can produce some goals in some creative ways.
