2022-23 Detroit Red Wings Predictions and Futures Odds Picks
This Detroit Red Wings team made some strides last year. Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond arrived in Detroit with a splash and made the team fun to watch, especially considering the absolutely awful seasons leading up to last year. Seider won the Calder Trophy as the league’s top rookie, and suddenly the team has hope. This team had an interesting offseason in which they were quite busy making it an exciting year if you are a Detroit fan. While the odds still aren’t great for this team, they aren’t the dumpster fire they were a couple years ago. This team has missed the playoffs for six years in a row. And while they are starting to build something, fans are going to get antsy with another missed playoff year.

Detroit Red Wings Offseason Moves
This team had a busy offseason. They Signed Andrew Copp, who is a perfect middle-six option for the team. They also signed Ben Chiarot and David Perron to multiple year contracts. Dominik Kubalik and Olli Maata also inked contracts with the Red Wings. The team also has a new goalie in Vin Husso. We will see how the team meshes together with new coach Derek Lalonde in his first season with Detroit. Simon Edvinsson could be one of the more intriguing additions for this team. He may not start the year in Detroit. However, at just 19 years of age, he is coming off being a finalist for rookie of the year in the Swedish hockey league.
Season Outlook
This team is slowly rebuilding, and things are looking up. However, the fanbase in Detroit may be getting a bit restless. While the team is on the road to success in a couple of years, they have missed the playoffs for six consecutive seasons. And it’s looking increasingly probable that this season will continue that streak.
The team has some great young talent. However, to contend with other teams in the East, it is going to take a lot more development. With the Stanley Cup being the long-term goal, this year should continue to be focused on the development of these young players. Seider and Lucas Raymond have already developed into great players that should continue to grow. They need more impact guys and need to improve the defense. The team ranked 31st in goals against last year, and that is one of the many issues that Lalonde will have to try and fix in his first year coaching the team.
Detroit did try and address some of those issues in the offseason with Copp and Perron. The bottom line is that this is still a development year for this team, and they hopefully will start seeing the results they want sooner rather than later. This may not be a playoff team, but it’ll be an exciting young team to watch night in and night out.
Detroit Red Wings NHL Futures Odds
The Red Wings are +5000 to win the Stanley Cup, putting them at 20th in the league to win the title. They are sitting at +15000 to win the Presidents Trophy, a very long way from the top. They are at +2700 to have the worst record in the NHL, which currently sits at 10th. The Red Wings are +3000 to win the Eastern Conference, sitting just above the Devils at 6th from the last spot. They are sitting +3000 to win the tough Atlantic Division, just in front of the Sabres and Canadiens. The over/under for points is at 84.5. The team is at +280 to make the playoffs this year.
2022-23 Detroit Red Wings Predictions
The team should continue to build on last year and be more and more exciting. They are in one of the toughest divisions, as the Atlantic has some Stanley Cup hopefuls sitting at the top. This year should be a taste of what is to come.
One of the biggest questions will be if Edvinsson can partner up with Seider and be a force for Detroit for years to come. At only 19, he has the potential to answer a lot of questions for the future of this team. This team probably won’t get in the playoff picture this year, but they are slowly building from the ground up. I’d say give it another season or two before we are looking at a playoff team. Given this division and conference, they are taking the appropriate steps to make sure they are competitive for future years.
