2023 College World Series Betting Odds and Predictions
The college baseball season has entered the month of May, and that means we are a little over three weeks away from selections being announced for the 2023 D1 baseball championships. The field of 64 is sure to include the usual suspects and unexpected names. However, who will make the trip to Omaha in June? Predicting the eight teams that will go to Omaha, let alone who will take home the hardware, is a difficult task in itself, but that does not mean we cannot try. We will highlight some teams that could be worth a wager in Omaha below!
Doc’s Sports offers MLB expert picks for every game on our baseball predictions page.\
Odds For Top 10 Teams
LSU +400 – Wake Forest +1000 – South Carolina +1000 – Florida +1200 – Arkansas +1500
Tennessee +1500 – Vanderbilt +1800 – Virginia +2000 – Stanford +2500 – UCLA +3000
LSU +400
The LSU Tigers have an abundance of talent on this roster thanks to some key transfers and great recruiting. They sit at 36-8 overall on the season and are fresh off a three-game sweep over a 30-win Alabama squad. The offense is led by Dylan Crews and his .486 batting average. He also leads the team in OPS (1.484) and hits with 72 on the season. Crews, along with Tommy White, Jared Jones, and Gavin Dugas each have hit 10+ home runs for the Tigers. The pitching staff is led by Paul Skenes and his 1.93 ERA in over 65 innings of work. This team will be a force to be reckoned with in Omaha.
Wake Forest +1000
The Demon Deacons rise to No. 2 in the country, their highest ranking in the 43-year history of the Baseball America rankings. Entering the week with a 37-6 record and 16-4 in ACC play, they have three very winnable series left against Boston College, Wake Forest, and Virginia Tech. They boast a plethora of talent offensively, as five guys are hitting above .330. Tommy Hawke leads the team with a .381 batting average, and Nick Kurtz, Justin Johnson, and Brock Wilken have each hit 10+ homers. Rhett Lowder commands the pitching staff with his 9-0 record and respectable 1.83 ERA. At 10-1 odds, and not used to this kind of ranking, this program is a nice wager to root for come June.
Florida +1200
With a 36-10 overall record, the Gators have one of the most well-rounded teams in the entire country. They can beat their opponent in a number of ways but heavily rely on the offense. Jac Caglianone, one of the Gators’ two midseason candidates for the Golden Spikes Award, leads the country in home runs (26) and has powered the Florida offense as they have lost only one series in SEC play this year. The next three weeks will be crucial as they have matchups with Texas A&M, No. 5 Vanderbilt, and No. 21 Kentucky. With a mediocre pitching staff, this team will look to bash teams at the plate heading into Omaha.
Tennessee +1500
The Vols look to redeem themselves in 2023 after failing to make it to Omaha last year despite being ranked as the No. 1 team for most of the season. They currently sit at 31-14 and have a tremendous 29-4 record at home. They will need to improve on their 2-10 road/neutral site record and will have opportunities at Georgia and South Carolina before the regular season ends. This team is built on pitching, which is evident with 11 hurlers with ERAs under 3.25. The offense is led by Jared Dickey and Blake Burke with .331 and .323 batting averages, respectively. Their road record might be a problem, but do not count out a team that has the drive of this squad to redeem themselves from last year’s disappointment.
Campbell +8000
Bring on the Fightin’ Camels!!!!!!! This is my long shot based on recent history and the fun style this team plays with. Campbell has displayed offensive firepower to compete with anyone in the country. They have a top-5 slugging and on-base percentage along with team home runs. They do have a weaker schedule compared to most teams but have two nonconference wins over No. 9 East Carolina. Within the past week they played a tough, hard-nosed game against No. 10 Duke that resulted in a 4-2 loss but bounced back by beating 29-win North Carolina. The Camels have made some rumblings in the postseason in recent years, on the doorstep of a super-regional in each of the last two. Sitting at 33-10 on the season, I believe this is the year the Camels party in Omaha.
Predictions:
Teams I am laying money on to win the College World Series: LSU +400, Wake Forest +1000 and Campbell +8000
