NBA Picks
The NBA is considered by many to be the best league for sports betting. Yes, the NFL is king in terms of popularity and wagering volume per game but nothing beats NBA basketball over the course of a season. Why? There are many opportunities to make NBA picks every night. NBA lines move more often and are not as sharp as football lines which are under the microscope all week. NBA odds have a much shorter lifespan meaning there are greater opportunities to find value. That gives Doc's basketball handicappers exponentially more opportunities to offer daily free NBA picks and be even more selective when offering expert NBA picks.
Free NBA Picks and Expert Predictions
You can find Free NBA picks throughout the Doc's Sports network including this free NBA predictions page; on our Doc's NBA Experts page; and on the Youtube channels of our expert NBA handicappers. We now also have a very popular NBA video section that is updated daily with several videos during the NBA season. Check the video link on the top navigation. Those ready to take advantage of our Free $60 in member selections can click the button at the top of this page and start receiving free expert predictions.
Get your NBA Picks Today, and Everyday!
Doc's offers expert NBA picks today and every day of the NBA season! Sure, there are the days when the NBA card consists of only tanking teams competing for the right to draft the next Zion Williamson. These teams are bad and their competition for an audience is Seinfeld reruns or maybe getting an extra hour of sleep. At Doc's we don't see this as trash basketball, we see this as a huge opportunity to make money...on trash basketball. Each day during the basketball season is an opportunity to make valuable and profitable predictions
What are NBA Picks Against the Spread?
Most NBA bettors are going to make NBA picks against the spread. This is also known as NBA picks ATS. Sportsbooks give each NBA team a handicap of X amount of points. That means if books think the Lakers are 4 points better than the Celtics they will offer a line of Lakers -4. If a Doc's handicapper has reason to believe the Lakers are much more than 4 points better, his pick against the spread would be to take the Lakers -4. This is how all bets on the spread work unless bookmakers consider both teams to be evenly matched, in which case the line is a pick, AKA pick'em. At Doc's the majority of our NBA selections are against the spread. However, there can be outstanding value on betting NBA totals.
What are NBA Over/Under Picks?
The pace of the game, as well as which team dictates the pace, is a key factor when handicapping basketball games. When pace is an especially strong signal, it may dictate a pick on the over/under. An NBA over/under pick is another way of referring to a prediction on an NBA game point total. NBA total lines are usually well above 200 in today's NBA making them harder for the betting public to find value. For example, the 2004 Detroit Pistons team was very consistently within 5 points of the 90 they averaged. In today's NBA, greater scoring means greater variance. However, professional basketball handicappers can use this to their advantage as the sportsbooks also try to keep track of the higher scoring NBA totals. Doc's sports NBA total picks are some of the best in the business and our total prediction write-ups are insightful. Along with offering our NBA expert picks, we provide free selections that are intended to help bettors with their handicapping legwork.
What are NBA Parlay Picks?
Parlay picks are sucker bets they say! Never bet and NBA parlay they say! Bettors that speak in these absolutes clearly haven't learned how to find value betting basketball. Sure, the payout on parlays at most sportsbooks have gone down to the point where putting two of your picks together for the sake of winning more is not a good investment. But what if your parlay picks could be made on the same game? That is called a correlated NBA parlay. Many sportsbooks offer the ability to make NBA bets against the spread and total in the same game. So if you have a great read on a game and expect one team to quit and fall behind, you may decide to make an NBA parlay prediction. At Doc's our experts will offer a free parlay pick in rare cases. It is not common because we need to find value for our customers on both lines before they move. If our parlay prediction is indeed on the same game, we need to confirm there is value regardless of the fact that you can't line shop the odds on a parlay. Both bets in a parlay must be made at the same sportsbook. If there is a free selection on the total over of -14 and under 200 it was offered knowing that those lines can be found at most Las Vegas sportsbooks and online.
What are NBA Playoff Predictions?
Once the regular season is over the NBA tends to resemble the national football league in many ways. Bettors have much more time to make their NBA playoff picks as teams travel to each other's arenas and rest between series. Making successful NBA playoff predictions is as much about when you bet as it is who you bet on. A series might not start for days. That means an NBA spread may move quite a few points especially as the public bets closer to the action. If we see value in a playoff prediction it will rely heavily on getting the line we are quoting in said NBA pick. In the words of the great Tony George, "We are betting numbers, not teams!" That may not be more relevant than when making picks on the NBA playoff games.

6-Unit Play Take Cleveland -4.5 over Detroit (3 p.m. EST, Saturday May 9)
Even though the Cavs lost Games 1 and 2, they didn’t embarrass themselves and they are still in this series as far as we are concerned. They must win tonight and we think they will do that. The Cavs have enjoyed one of the best home court advantages in the Eastern Conference this year and this team has plenty of experience and we don’t think they are panicking and will go out and get the job done tonight.

3-Unit Play. Take #502 Cleveland (-4.5) Over Detroit (3 pm, Saturday May 9)

6-Unit Play. Take #503/504 'Over' 211.5 Oklahoma City at LA Lakers (8:40 p.m., Sat, May 9)
The Lakers should have one of their better offensive performances of the season the way I see it. They are finally back home and lost their most recent home game to the Rockets and scored only 93 points in that defeat. Also, they are off a game in which they were very frustrated by the officiating in Game 2 at Oklahoma City and I expect a huge and aggressive effort from the Lakers here as they are home and down 2-0 in this series. Los Angeles is still an 8.5 home dog here for a reason however and I see great value with this low total as a result. I am very confident that the Thunder get to at least the 117 range which puts the Lakers in the 108 range (if the ATS is about right in this one) and that means 225 points here! That is a very reasonable final the way I see it and that means more than double digits in value here compared to the posted total. Note that Oklahoma City has averaged 121 ppg in their 6 post-season games. LA had averaged 110 ppg in their last 4 home games prior to that Game 5 loss to the Rockets. Also, other than an embarrassing home loss to Oklahoma City late in the season, the Lakers home games had seen them scoring very well Other than that ugly loss to the Thunder, the Lakers averaged 122 ppg in their final 12 home games of the regular season. I know they don't have Doncic but Reaves had 31 in Game 2 at OKC and James and Hachimura have also scored well so far in this series. Now at home and with their backs against the wall, look for LA to come up with a big offensive game and that means plenty of points here because I don't see them slowing down the Thunder. Oklahoma City has scored 122.5 ppg in going 6-0 against the Lakers this season. LA does not have an answer for stopping them! 6* OVER 211.5 in LA Lakers
3-Unit Play. Take #502 Cleveland -4.5 vs Detroit (3:10 p.m., Sat, May 9)
I lost with the Cavs in Game 2 after winning with the Pistons in Game 1. However, what happened in Game 2 was simply that the Pistons were on fire from deep. That is not happening again on the road here. Detroit made 14 of 28 threes while Cleveland took more threes (32) but only made 7 of theirs! That said, the Cavaliers got outscored by 21 points from deep in the 10 point loss. In other words, inside the arc Cleveland won the game by 11 points! I feel the unusual result in Game 3 is helping to give us value here and I see the Cavaliers getting back into this series with a big win here. 3* CLEVELAND -4.5
Arun Shiva (Indian Cowboy)
4-Unit Play. #503. Take Under 212 OKC Thunder vs. Los Angeles Lakers (Saturday @ 8:30pm est)
Note, 1-0 to start the WNBA Season for +400 and expect great things there and back to back baseball winners as well. Per this game, after last contest going over, the only way the Lakers and Reddick will have any chance is if this is a low scoring game. It is painfully obvious that without Luka this team cannot compete on the offensive end and they have to play physical, need some calls, as Reaves got on the Refs the last game in OKC and I think they will let them play physical here, the crowd will be great at LA and it is only through their defense will LA have any shot here and we can see this game dipping Under here.

Take #503 OK City (-8.5) over LA Lakers
*8:30 EST
This regular season OK City went 4-0 against the Lakers (3 with Donic playing) and won by a combined 117 points. WOW. So this game is in LA, and the line drops 7.5 points (from previous games) after OKC beat up LA by 18 points in both games at home? What changed? Nothing did.
OKC can beat any team in the NBA by double digits if they want to and are dialed in. I say they are dialed in and win by 10+ again. 10 years ago I would say Lebron James at home in Playoff game getting 8.5 would be a steal. Times have changed. OKC has win every game in the postseason, and no less than 9 point wins in all of them. Unreal.

7-Unit Play: #504 Los Angeles +8.5-110 over Oklahoma City (Saturday, May 9, 2026, 8:30pm ET)
Take Los Angeles ATS as my top NBA pick for Saturday night. This pick falls into one of my top NBA systems and I really like Los Angeles in basically what is a must-win spot for them to have any legitimate shot at winning the series. Los Angeles did shoot 50% against Oklahoma City in their last game including 38% from beyond the arc but 20 turnovers cost them any shot at that victory. I definitely expect Los Angeles to take much better care of the basketball here tonight and I also expect them to step up defensively at home. Play Los Angeles ATS
Scott Spreitzer
3-Unit Play: Take Thunder -8.5 over Lakers (8:30 p.m., Sat., May 9)
I expect the Lakers to keep this close for a while but I’m betting OKC pulls away in the second half like they did in Game-2. The Thunder are 6-0 SU/ATS against the Lakers this season. The closest decision was nine points and the average margin of victory was 25.5 points. SGA hasn’t even gone off in this series thus far, yet OKC won the first two games by 18 points in each. The Thunder are on an 11-1 run, winning by 15 ppg against teams that allow 46% or better shooting on the season. The Lakers allow 48.3%. I’m laying the points with Oklahoma City. Thanks & GL! 3-Unit Play. Take #502 Cleveland (-4.5) over Detroit (3 p.m., Saturday, May 9)
Cleveland has been in this series despite being down 0-2. Games 1 and 2 showed that Detroit isn't going to run away with this series as a few late miscues by the Cavs have been the difference. Cleveland has been dominant at home this post season and that will continue today as the Cavs put a little pressure on the Pistons by keeping it chalk. Cleveland will get a nice boost from the home crowd today and win this game by 8-10 points.

7 Unit Play - Take #501 DET Pistons (+4.5, -105) Over CLE Cavaliers. (3:00p.m, Saturday, May 9th)
Detroit comes into this road game leading the series two games to zero. Cleveland has been again one of the biggest powerhouses in the Eastern Conference all season long, and they are back at home, where they play their best basketball. This is another case of the must-win situation/motivational factor game for the Cavs. The trend has been brutal in the postseason for teams in these must-win situations. Detroit has throttled 5 straight playoff wins. We do not care that during this win streak only 1 of those wins occurred on the road. The public eye is going to catch this, which will also add buying power to the Cavs tonight. White noise confluences are stacked all over Cleveland here tonight, whilst the reality is Detroit has won 5 games in a row; they cleaned up Orlando to get here and now lead this series 2-0. Detroit has caught playoff momentum, and it's our belief they not only cover the spread tonight but also we like a small sprinkle on the moneyline. We will take the points here with Detroit for a much healthier spot.

3-Unit Play: Take Thunder -8.5 over Lakers (8:30 p.m., Sat., May 9)I expect the Lakers to keep this close for a while but I’m betting OKC pulls away in the second half like they did in Game-2. Take #502 Cleveland (-4.5) over Detroit (3 p.m., Saturday, May 9)Cleveland has been in this series despite being down 0-2.

(3:00p.m, Saturday, May 9th)Detroit comes into this road game leading the series two games to zero.
