On Saturday afternoon, Nicholls State Colonels (0-3) will visit the the North Texas Mean Green (1-2) in hopes of picking up their first win of the season.
Nicholls State lost for the third time in three games last Saturday when they were beaten 27-10 at home by Henderson State. They once again had a hard time moving the ball in that game by gaining just 164 passing yards and 88 yards in the ground. They converted eight of their 16 third down attempts, but they turned the ball over twice.
Nicholls State quarterback has only completed 48.4 percent of his passes this season for 388 yards with just one touchdown and one interception. Wide receiver Darryl Watson II has caught nine passes this season for 113 yards and one score.
Over the weekend, North Texas were beat up by Louisiana Tech 42-21 at home. The Mean Green only put up a total of 279 yards in the loss and they converted just six of their 18 third down opportunities. North Texas has only passed for 99.3 passing yards per game through three games, which is 124th in the country.
Mean Green running back Reggie Pegram has rushed for 152 yards and one score on 43 carries, while Antoinne Jimmerson has gained 111 yards on the ground with two touchdowns. Quarterback Josh Greer has only passed for 171 yards this year with no touchdowns an two interceptions.
