Wednesday night, the Golden State Warriors will open their season against the Sacramento Kings.

The Golden State Warriors will start the new season after going 51 – 31 last season and making their 2nd straight trip to the postseason.  But this season they will be under the direction of new head coach Steve Kerr.  A new system is always difficult for a team to adapt to.  The beginning of the season will provide a barometer of whether the Warriors are finally ready to take the next step to fully contend for an NBA title.  Golden State did look strong in their preseason finale against the Denver Nuggets last Friday.  The Warriors grabbed a 119 - 112 victory behind Klay Thompson’s 35 point effort.  Another performance like that could make it easy for the Warriors to get past the Kings.

The Sacramento Kings were a disappointing (but expected) 28 -54 last season.  Expectations were low because of a new owner, a new general manager and a new head coach.  But with a whole season to get used to a new system, the Kings are expecting much better results this time around.  But expectations could be low considering that the Kings lost point guard Isaiah Thomas and his 20 points per game to the Phoenix Suns.  In their last preseason tune-up against the Los Angeles Lakers, the Kings had to rally to post a 93 -92 win.   They closed a 13 point gap in the last 4 minutes to steal that win.  Sacramento can’t depend on that type of comeback happening every night and it certainly won’t happen against the Warriors.
