The Washington Wizards showed up to play in their Game 5 matchup with the Indiana Pacers and dominated every phase of the game on their way to a 102-79 victory and cut the Pacers' series lead down to 3-2. The most eye-popping stat of the night was the Wizards' 62-23 rebounding advantage, which helped Washington overcome their 19 turnovers in the game.
The Wizards were able to outscore the Pacers in each of the first three quarters, including a dominant 31-14 third quarter that allowed them to cruise the rest of the way. Indiana did have a 27-26 advantage in the fourth period, but both teams played their backups for a large portion of that quarter.
Wizards center Marcin Gortat had by far his best game of the playoffs so far by making 13 of his 15 field goal attempts and finishing with a game-high 31 points and 16 rebounds. All-Star John Wall also had one of his better games of the postseason by scoring 27 points. Shooting guard Bradley Beal had 18 points and eight rebounds in 40 minutes on the floor.
David West was the one Pacer who looked solid in the game, finishing with a team-high 17 points and six rebounds in the loss. Indiana star Paul George made just five of his 15 shots and ended up with 15 points for the hosts.
