The Portland Trail Blazers and Chicago Bulls last played against each other in late November, a game the Blazers won 98-95 on their home floor. The game was significant for other reasons, though, as Bulls' star point guard Derrick Rose had to leave the game in the third quarter with yet another knee injury. This would end up being Rose's last game of the season because the injury required surgery.

Rose's injury definitely had an impact on the game as the Blazers were able to erase a 15-point halftime deficit when they outscored the Bulls 34-12 in the third quarter. The Bulls made a late comeback in the fourth quarter and even tied it up at one point, but Portland was able to hold them off for the three-point victory.

All five Blazers starters scored in double figures for the game. Wesley Matthews was their top scorer with 28 points and Robin Lopez pitched in with 13 points and a game-high 16 rebounds. Portland made 12 of the 26 three-pointers they attempted and 14 of their 15 free throw attempts in the win.

Rose had 20 points and five assists before he was injured, which happened when he attempted to get back on defense after a Joakim Noah turnover. Luol Deng added 15 points and 14 rebounds in the loss. Bulls small forward Jimmy Butler missed the game with turf toe.
