The Washington Wizards were able to win their first second round road game since 1982 on Monday by beating the Indiana Pacers 102-96 and taking a 1-0 lead in their Eastern Conference semifinal series. Both teams shot pretty well in the game, but Washington dominated the boards and ended up with a 53-36 advantage at the end of the night.
The Wizards used a hot start to control the game and went into the second quarter up 28-15. The Pacers had the lead temporarily in the second period, but Washington played good defense and rebounded well the rest of the way to hang on for the win.
Trevor Ariza did all of his work in the first half of the game, making all six of his three-point attempts and finishing with 22 points. Bradley Beal led the way in the second half and ended up with 25 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and five steals in the win. Drew Gooden came off the bench for the Wizards to contribute 12 points and grab 13 rebounds.
The Pacers were led by power forward David West, who had 15 points and 12 rebounds in the loss. George Hill made 3 three-pointers near the end of the game and finished with 18 points and four rebounds. Roy Hibbert had yet another poor playoff performance for Indiana by scoring zero points and grabbing zero rebounds.
