Vancouver Canucks Odds to Win the Stanley Cup Championship

The only way to describe this offseason for the Vancouver Canucks is strange. After trying to trade Roberto Luongo for years, they stunned everyone — including Luongo — by instead trading away Cory Schneider for a first-round pick and seemingly committing to Luongo. They essentially traded coaches with the Rangers — seeing Alain Vigneault go to New York, and hiring John Tortorella — a pseudo-trade they definitely seem to have lost. They were incredibly active in free agency, with no fewer than seven players leaving and nine joining the team — though none were high profile. It all seems like an attempt to shake up a team that has never managed to play up to their talent in the playoffs and which has clearly been in a funk since losing in the 2010 Cup finals to Boston. So, are all the bizarre changes enough to turn things around? The oddsmakers at Bovada are lukewarm — the team is 16/1 to win the Stanley Cup as of August 15, which puts them behind five teams. Very good, but perhaps not elite. It’s hard to know how the public will respond to the changes, so look below for the latest futures odds.
