NCAA Hockey Tournament - two picks below from the Albany regional
3-Unit Play. Take #6269/6270 'Over' 5.5 (-160) Michigan vs Bentley (5:30 p.m., Fri, March 27)
First off I want to mention that yesterday I posted a pick involving Michigan State and the Spartans and was indeed 'speaking' about them throughout the analysis and yet I referred to them as the Michigan Wolverines. I knew I was writing up the Spartans game but just 'misspoke' in the write-up and I just wanted to address that first. Secondly, I want to mention I am taking an alternative total here of 5.5 goals and we lay some juice for that but I don't want to get burned on an over 6.5 if Michigan wins this by a 4-2 or 5-1 count for example. The Wolverines are the highest scoring team and have the best power play unit. They are a huge favorite for a reason here and I expect a high-scoring battle as the Wolverines tune up their offense for what will be a tougher game coming Sunday! As for this game Friday, Bentley should get on the board a couple times here (averaged 4 gpg L5 games) but also can't stop this Michigan powerhouse. 3* OVER 5.5 (-160) in Michigan
4-Unit Play. Take #6271 Penn State (-118) vs Minnesota Duluth (9 p.m., Fri, March 27)
The #3 seed for this region is favored over the #2 seed here for a reason. I respect the season that Minnesota Duluth had but this has been a case of two programs heading in opposite directions. The Bulldogs have not made this tourney since 2022 and also had not even had a winning season since then either. The Nittany Lions finally built up one of the top hockey programs around and have made this tourney 6 times in the past 10 seasons. Don't be surprised if Penn State phenom Gavin McKenna - a freshman! - plays a key role in this game and helps lead the Lions to victory. He is likely going to be the #1 pick in the upcoming NHL draft. 4* PENN STATE -118
