Free Football Picks Against The Spread + Moneyline Picks

Much like NFL betting, the majority of the action is on the spread. However betting value can be found on other bet types which we will explore here. If a bettor was to bet on one team outright, without the spread, he or she would be wagering on the moneyline. Moneyline bets do not involve a handicap of the final score. A moneyline bet is when the payout is adjusted for the team's odds of winning. An underdog moneyline will pay more than your stake while betting on the college football favorite means you will receive less. How much more or less depends on how much better the favored team is perceived to be than the underdog. For example, in the 2020 National Championship game, LSU was -200 versus Clemson.

Example: LSU (-200) vs Clemson (+160)

In this case LSU was favored by about 4. If you wanted to bet on LSU outright you would, at the worst, have gotten a price of -200. That means you would have had to risk $200 to win $100. Betting $100 on the Clemson Tigers meant you stood to win $160.

LSU was favored by 4 on the spread at normal vig, which is a price of -110. Of course, we could have bet on the Clemson Tigers +4 and didn't have to worry about them winning, as long as they lost by less than 4 points. We know how that turned out with the favorite covering and the sportsbooks losing a lot of money!
