Free Football Picks Against The Spread + Moneyline Picks

Much like NFL betting, the majority of the action is on the spread. However betting value can be found on other bet types which we will explore here. If a bettor was to bet on one team outright, without the spread, he or she would be wagering on the moneyline. Moneyline bets do not involve a handicap of the final score. A moneyline bet is when the payout is adjusted for the team's odds of winning. An underdog moneyline will pay more than your stake while betting on the college football favorite means you will receive less. How much more or less depends on how much better the favored team is perceived to be than the underdog. For example, in the 2020 National Championship game, LSU was -200 versus Clemson.

Example: LSU (-200) vs Clemson (+160)

In this case LSU was favored by about 4. If you wanted to bet on LSU outright you would, at the worst, have gotten a price of -200. That means you would have had to risk $200 to win $100. Betting $100 on the Clemson Tigers meant you stood to win $160.

LSU was favored by 4 on the spread at normal vig, which is a price of -110. Of course, we could have bet on the Clemson Tigers +4 and didn't have to worry about them winning, as long as they lost by less than 4 points. We know how that turned out with the favorite covering and the sportsbooks losing a lot of money!

Some games are better suited for money line betting while others are more easily exploited when wagering against the spread. Finding the best edge in football betting is the bottomline. We are betting into numbers, not into the teams that the public is itching for!

College Football Totals Picks

Betting football sides or money lines isn't the only way to bet on a College Football game. At times our NCAAF experts may offer a play on the total, AKA the over/under. This means that we are making a prediction on if the combined score of both teams will total up to be above or below the total score line set by the sportsbooks. When examining football totals, a common point of interest is how the skill positions on offense match up with the pass rush and secondary from the opposing team. Weather, pace, splits, and coaching schemes are also important when predicting the total points output for a given game. However like all betting lines, watching the market for the optimal total number is the most important factor. A game may be expected to be high scoring but if the total line is also very high, we may pass on that line... or wait until it goes down creating a margin between what is predicted and what is offered by the bookmaker.

College Football Parlay Picks

It's common to hear a disclaimer before any good handicapper talks about teasers and parlays. It usually starts off acknowledging that parlay bets are usually bad investments; that the sportsbook's margins are too high for players to win betting parlays long term; that bookmakers love when players bet parlays. These are all legitimate concerns when making football parlay picks. At Doc's we'll warn bettors about falling into bad parlay habits, especially when betting parlays with many teams. But selectively, betting parlays can also be a quality investment.

There are instances when you can find two very favorable lines at the same sportsbook. There is also an opportunity to make correlated parlay picks, which are two picks on the same game. Essentially what a handicapper is doing here is forecasting the scenario of how a single game will play out and betting on it in more than one way. A good example is to bet on the underdog and the under-the-total to hit or the over and the favorite. This also lessens the number of games you have to research in any given period of football handicapping. At Doc's, our betting experts will, from time to time, offer a parlay pick or teaser for College Football. While it is not common, because we need to find value on both lines for our readers before odds shift, we don't hesitate to identify this value and pass these selections to our clients.
