2026 New York Mets Predictions with Odds to Win World Series and Futures Picks

Last season, the Mets front office invested a lot of money into last year’s team. Unfortunately, their efforts weren’t reflected on the field, and they missed out on the playoffs. This season, they have fine-tuned that roster by further filling in holes. They added ace Freddy Peralta to head the rotation, while they hope Nolan McLean can be the emerging star he projects to be. The lineup is star-studded. However, whether or not it will be enough remains to be seen.

Summary of Last Season
The Mets met a terrible fate last season. After hundreds of millions went into constructing the roster, the mighty Mets missed the playoffs after limping to an 83-79 record. They finished four games worse than their expected record of 87-75 after posting losing records in one-run and extra inning games. They finished 13 games out of first place in the NL East, and while they had the same record as the Cincinnati Reds, they failed to claim the last wild card due to the tiebreaker going to the Reds.
New York finished ninth in the league in runs, 14th in hits, fifth in homeruns, fifth in walks, fifth in stolen bases, and sixth in OPS. Juan Soto led the Mets with a 6.2 WAR, after almost recording a 40/40 season. He clubbed the team best 43 homeruns and stole a team best 38 bases. Francisco Lindor finished the season on his heels with a 5.8 WAR. Lindor recorded a 30/30 season after hitting 31 homeruns and stealing 31 bases. Pete Alonso led the team with 126 RBIs, while also finishing second on the Mets with 38 homeruns. Brandon Nimmo also had a strong season after hitting 25 homeruns, tallying 92 RBIs, and posting a 2.9 WAR.
The pitching staff struggled. The Mets pitching staff ranked 18th in team ERA after posting a 4.03 mark. They finished 28th in quality starts, and 23rd in WHIP. Edwin Diaz was the best pitcher for the Mets last season after leading all pitchers on the team with a 3.0 WAR. He finished the regular season with a 1.63 ERA and 28 saves in 66.1 innings of work. Kodai Senga was the most effective starter for New York as he finished with a rotation best 2.1 WAR after recording a 3.02 ERA and 109 strikeouts in 113.1 innings of work.
Key Additions/Losses
At the end of their abysmal season, the Mets watched Ryan Helsley, Cedric Mullins, Griffin Canning, Tyler Rogers, Gregory Soto, Jesse Winker, Ryne Stanek, Starling Marte, Diaz, Nick Madrigal, Drew Smith, and Alonso all hit free agency. The Mets later non-tendered three relievers, Jose Castillo, Danny Young, and Max Kranick. They later traded Nimmo to the Texas Rangers, Jeff McNeil to the Athletics, Luisangel Acuna to the Chicago White Sox, and prospects Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat to the Milwaukee Brewers.
Now those losses add up on paper no doubt, but the Mets did a lot of reshaping in order to maintain a highly competitive roster that can rival the Dodgers and Phillies. They acquired Marcus Semien in the Nimmo deal, Luis Robert Jr. in the Acuna deal, and Peralta and Tobias Myers in the deal with the Brewers. In addition to those big-name players, they signed Devin Williams, Nick Burdi, Carl Edwards Jr., Jorge Polanco, Cristian Pache, Luke Weaver, Kevin Herget, Christian Arroyo, Bo Bichette, Luis Garcia, Vidal Brujan, Craig Kimbrel, Austin Barnes, MJ Melendez, and Mike Tauchman.
Prospect Outlook
While their MLB roster is loaded with elite talent, the Mets farm system is one of the best in the MLB. The Mets have the fifth best pool of minor league players in the league, with four players rankings inside the MLB’s Top 100 Rankings. Their highest rated prospect is McLean who is the sixth ranked prospect in baseball. He will immediately start the season in the Mets rotation, and he will see fellow prospects Carson Benge (OF, 16th) and Jonah Tong (RHP, 48th) at the big-league level this season. Benge is a five-tool player with the potential to add to the next generation of top outfielders while Tong has one of the best fastballs in the minors and has incredible command of his pitches. Outfielder/Second baseman A.J. Ewing rounds out the Mets top prospects, coming in at 97th on the list.
X-Factors
The Clubhouse- Last year the roster was elite, this year it may be in an even better position than it was last season. However, like last season, failing to establish leadership in the clubhouse will result in another let down. The front office issues have seemingly decreased, but now the players need to take accountability and realize there is no excuse for missing out on a deep playoff run.

2026 New York Mets Predictions:
The Mets are loaded this season. It is hard for me to see anyone else win the NL East with the incredible improvements that the Mets have made. The Braves are still a tier below the Phillies and Mets, and the Mets top the Phillies on paper. The trio of Peralta, McLean, and a healthy Senga can rival even the Dodgers in a playoff series, making them a legitimate threat to making a deep postseason run and even a World Series berth. It also helps when you have a lineup that features Lindor, Bichette, Soto, Semien, and Robert, among others, as well as a bullpen anchored by Williams. McLean at +370 to win the NL Rookie of the Year is a great value pick, especially considering the valuable innings he pitched during the World Baseball Classic. As for the win total, take the over and expect the Mets to win 100 or more games this season.
