The biggest storyline to follow for the Los Angeles Dodgers is whether or not they can record a three-peat with another World Series title. They have the tools to build a six-man rotation. However, whether or not that comes to fruition this year is yet to be seen. They have the best top half of a lineup in the league, and they have the best player in baseball to rely on at the plate and on the mound. Summary of Last Season

Last season was another World Series winning year for the Dodgers. They finished the season with a 93-69 record, winning the NL West, and posting a +142-run differential. They struggled away from home, going just 41-40 away from Dodgers Stadium. After a dominant regular season, they finished the race at the highest level. They stomped the Reds, Phillies, and Brewers on their way to another World Series appearance. They swept the Reds and Brewers, while losing just one game to the Phillies. Through their first three playoff series, they finished with a +17-run differential. However, things got a little harder for the Dodgers when they reached the world series. They had to overcome a 3-2 series deficit in order to stave off the hungry, Cinderella Toronto Blue Jays secure another ring.

The Dodgers showcased one of the most productive lineups in the league. They finished second in the league in runs, while also being one of just three teams to reach the 800-run milestone on the season. They also ranked second in homeruns and OPS. Shohei Ohtani recorded a 6.6 WAR at the plate which led the team. Ohtani clubbed 55 homeruns, nine triples, 102 RBIs, 20 stolen bases, and a 1.1014 OPS all of which led the way for the Dodgers. Behind Ohtani, Mookie Betts finished with a 4.8 WAR, Will Smith finished with a 4.5 WAR, and Andy Pages finished with a 3.8 WAR. Betts, Pages, Freddie Freeman, and Teoscar Hernandez all joined Ohtani as the only Dodgers to hit the 20-homerun mark on the season. Freeman finished second on the team with a 90 RBI season.

As for the pitching, they ranked 17th in ERA, 19th in quality starts, 10th in homeruns, and 14th in WHIP. Yoshinobu Yamamoto led the staff with a 5.0 WAR and was the only Dodgers pitcher to record a WAR over 2.0. Yamamoto finished the season with 18 quality starts, 201 strikeouts, 0.99 WHIP, and a 2.49 ERA. Clayton Kershaw was the only other Dodgers pitcher to make more than 20 starts as he finished second on the team with 112.2 innings pitched. He flashed dominance in his last season, finishing with a 3.36 ERA and a 1.6 WAR. Despite an injury-riddled season, Tyler Glasnow finished second on the team with a 1.9 WAR after recording a 10.6 K/9 ratio and a 3.19 ERA.

Key Additions/Losses

At the end of their ring-winning season, the Dodgers watched Michael Kopech, Michael Conforto, Andrew Heaney, Kirby Yates, and Tony Gonsolin become free agents. Los Angeles also traded Esteury Ruiz to Miami and reliever Anthony Banda to Minnesota.

As for the additions, look away MLB fans as the Dodgers somehow managed to improve their video game like roster. They begin the offseason by signing Edwin Diaz to anchor the bullpen. After that, they would sign one of the best bats in the league in Kyle Tucker. They also added depth pieces in starting pitcher Cole Irvin, reliever Jordan Weems, infielder Keston Hiura, and utilityman Santiago Espinal.

Prospect Outlook

In tandem with perhaps the best roster ever assembled, they have the fourth ranked minor league system in the league. They have five players ranked inside the MLB Top 100 Prospects Rankings, though there are little to no holes in the MLB roster. Their highest rated prospect is outfielder Josue De Paula who has solid contact and power upside. He ranks 15th and is followed by fellow outfielders Zyhir Hope (27th), Eduardo Quintero (30th), and Mike Sirota (60th). Shortstop Emil Morales rounds out the top-rated prospects for the Dodgers, ranking 92nd.

X-Factors

Health- It is worth mentioning that only Yamamoto and Kershaw were the only pitchers to make more than 20 starts last season. Glasnow, Emmet Sheehan, Ohtani, and Roki Sasaki all had their seasons limited by injuries. If they can stay healthy the Dodgers will have the best rotation in baseball history with Yamamoto being followed by Glasnow, Snell, Ohtani, and Sasaki. Hernandez and Max Muncy also missed extended time. The Dodgers have one the last two world series without being healthy, now imagine how dominant they will be if they can stay healthy.

The Front Office- In order to mitigate for these injury concerns, the Dodgers have done well adding more star power and depth. However, with the five Top 100 prospects, and little to no room for them, the front office can continue to add rotation depth and add MLB ready bats.

2026 Los Angeles Dodgers Predictions

Ohtani is once again the heavy favorite to win the MVP, and it is hard to argue that fact when he is a top five bat in the league as well as a top 20 pitcher. He has three teammates capable of winning the award, but they will be in shadows of the Japanese star. Yamamoto at +550 to win the NL Cy Young award is a great value selection after the dominance he showed throughout the regular season and the postseason. As for the team’s future, they will face little competition within the NL West, and it is hard to bet against this team. Just to make things interesting, take the under on the win total in the event that the injury bug gets through the team again. However, there is no arguing that this is the best team on paper.
