NASCAR will visit the yard of bricks after taking a trip to Dover Motor Speedway. The historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway will play host to NASCAR this weekend for the Brickyard 400. This might be the most iconic and identifiable track in racing, and this will be the second season in which NASCAR raced here since 2020. The hiatus between 2020 and now was when the top division of NASCAR raced on the Grand Prix circuit. That said, this legendary four-turn track has been welcomed back to the schedule.

This is a track with very flat banking around the entire track and is a rectangular oval. While the four corners have banking that ranges from 9 to 12 degrees, the straightaways are completely flat. This track is known for being very sensitive to the temperature so that means the race teams will have to make adjustments to the cars to keep up with the ever-changing conditions. There shouldn't be a lot of tire wear this weekend because Goodyear has generally made a great tire for stock cars racing in Indy. This is a 400-mile event with long green flag runs, meaning that fuel mileage strategy is always something to keep an eye on and should be a factor in determining who will drive well this weekend.

This track is truly unique, so when looking for tracks to compare it to, there isn't much to go off of. The race that happened at Pocono Raceway could be considered the most similar to this track. Those that did well at the Tricky Triangle have a good shot keeping the train rolling in Indy. Drivers who have raced well in Indy since they started going there include Kyle Busch, Tyler Reddick Kyle Larson and Denny Hamlin to name a few. Look for these drivers to do well this weekend.

In a race that featured a 56-minute red flag for rain, Denny Hamlin was able to hold off Chase Briscoe in a double overtime win at Dover Raceway. With two restarts in overtime, Hamlin was able to get the jump on his new teammate, Briscoe, and hold off the driver with the fresher pair of tires. It was his second straight win here and his fourth of the season. He's raced incredibly well so far with those four wins and 10 top 5 finishes. Briscoe did push Hamlin on those last two laps, running door to door on the white flag lap. There was even a bit of contact before Hamlin was able to get around and clear Briscoes car. He ended up winning the race by0.310 seconds to become just the 13th driver in Dover history to win two consecutive races.

At this point in the season, Denny Hamlin is leading the pack with four wins and 663 points. On his tail is Kyle Larson who has three wins and 664 points. Christopher Bell is holding down the third spot with 635 points, three wins and eight top 5 finishes. Rounding out the top 5 of the Playoff standings are Shane van Gisbergen (three wins) and Chase Elliott (one win) with 374 points and 702 points respectively.

As hard as it is to pick a driver to win that's never won in Indy before, Denny Hamlin is having a great season and is coming off a win. He finished as the runner up in Pocono a few weeks back and that track is the only thing somewhat similar to Indy. He's got the hot hand, and I think he'll continue his hot streak this weekend.
