History will be made this weekend with the first ever Cup Series Race in Mexico. Mexico City is home to the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. This track spans 2.67 miles and has 17 turns. It's set up in the streets of the Magdalena Mixhuca Sports City public park. This track has evolved over the years since its inception in 1953. One of the most fascinating parts of the course is when it runs through the "Foro" which is a baseball stadium. This track has played host to the F1 Mexican Grand Prix for many years and has even been part of the Xfinity series.

This event is 100 laps, and you'll see top speeds being limited because of the 17 turns that drivers will have to endure. This circuit resembles some F1 street courses like Baku, Marina Bay, and Albert Park. This series does have experience racing on city streets, but it will be only the second time that NASCAR has taken part in this kind of event. The circuit in Chicago is similar in the sense that it runs through city streets, but that was only created just a couple seasons ago. The newness of this course is going to make for a very exciting race this weekend.

Because this is the first race at the track, there is no data to look back on to determine who might have the best chance of winning. Therefore, using road course results is a good start in determining who will perform well. Over the past two seasons, there have been 10 races on road circuits and Chris Buescher averages a finish of 7.3 with a win and three Top 5 finishes. Christopher Bell and Tyler Reddick are drivers to look out for as they have wins and all average around the Top 10 for finishes on this style of course.

With his third victory of the season, Denny Hamlin was able to manage his milage to take the crown at Michigan International Speedway for the FireKeepers Casino 400 last weekend. This was the 57th win of his career and it was a masterclass of driving. Hamlin put on a clinic in the last 2 miles of the race, showing everyone how to successfully manage fuel to capture gold. He finished 1.099 seconds ahead of Chris Buescher and Ty Gibbs. William Byron was dominating for most of the race but was forced to head in for fuel on the next to last lap. He gambled and came up short.

NASCAR Playoff Standings

Kyle Larson still leads the way with 535 points and three wins while Denny Hamlin is hot on his tail with 494 points and three wins to match. Christopher Bell is holding down the third spot with three wins and 480 points. William Byron and Ryan Blaney are holding down the fourth and fifth spots with one win a piece. There are still numerous available spots open for drivers who want to crack the win column this season.

William Byron has a great shot at getting his second win of the season this weekend. He has recent wins at Watkins Glen and COTA which both are similar to what drivers will be dealing with this weekend. While he had a disappointing finish in Michigan, Byron has a great shot of bouncing back in Mexico City.
