Chicago Street Race
Chicago, IL
NASCAR will be revisiting the Chicago Street course on Sunday for Part 2 of the Challenge. This is one of the most unique tracks on the circuit and it runs 2.14 miles long with 12 turns throughout the city of Chicago. This race features a trip down Mag Mile, Lake Shore Drive, Buckingham Fountain and the Lakefront Green Park. It is truly a one of kind track that incorporates the Windy City into the center of the NASCAR world. This race is divided into three stages that include 20 laps, 25 laps and the final stage is 30 laps. Because of this 12-turn, technical course, with 90 degree turns, you won't see the high speeds that you might be used to in NASCAR event. Instead, you'll get to see strategy at its finest. Both IndyCar and IMSA use street courses in cities like St. Petersburg, Long Beach and Detroit that will be very reminiscent of what you'll see this weekend. This will only be the third time these drivers have raced this course as it is new to the circuit. That said, there is still a lot of learning to do, and drivers will do their best to "figure" this course out before their competition does.

Because of the newness and style of this race, there isn't a lot of data to work off if you're looking at making predictions. However, one can look at other street courses and more specifically, the previous two races in Chicago. While it a very small sample size to work from, it's the available data out there and there is something to be said about that. In addition, Mexico City and Circuit of the Americas are the other two road races on the docket this season. Over the course of the last two races in Chicago, Ty Gibbs has the highest driver rating with a 112.0 and his average finish sits at 6.0. Shane van Gisbergen has also raced well in Chicago with a 110.8 driver rating and Tyler Reddick has an average finish of 15 with a driver rating of 104.5. Even with that data, it's fair to say that nobody really knows what's going to happen, which makes for an incredible day at the races.
Challenge Round 1 - Quaker State 400 Available at Walmart Recap
Leading the pack towards the end of the race, Brad Keselowski was overtaken by Chase Elliott and was held off for a second-place finish. The win for Elliott broke a 44-race drought that spans back to a win at Texas Motor Speedway last season. This was the 20th win of Elliott's career and the second at EchoPark. He was able to get the victory over Keselowski by 0.168 seconds and 0.170 over Alex Bowman. We're at the halfway point of the season and Elliott put himself in a great position to move on to the next round.
NASCAR Playoff Standings
There are three drivers with three wins on the season, and they include Kyle Larson (589 points), Denny Hamlin (551 points) and Christopher Bell (551 points). After the top three in the Playoff hunt, there are nine other drivers with one win on the season, which leaves four spots open for the plethora of drivers looking to secure their spot. Rounding out the top 5 in the standings are William Bryon with 631 points and Chase Elliott with 594 points.
