Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, NC
With the All-Star Race in the rear-view mirror, NASCAR will stay in North Carolina where they'll visit Charlotte Motor Speedway and its intermediate oval. The Coca-Cola 600 has long been a tradition for NASCAR on Memorial Day weekend and what better way to celebrate the long weekend than to have the longest race of the season? The Coca-Cola 600 is a 600-mile race and is a fast race at that. CMS is a 1.5-mile tri oval and is one of many on the circuit, that said, while it is similar to tracks in both Texas and Kansas, it seems to create more side-by-side racing than any of the other intermediate tracks. The durability of the cars and the horsepower will tell the story of this race. This is a long race, and it takes a toll on everyone involved so preserving the car, the driver and the fuel will be enormous factors in this race. With the long green flags that are generally present, it could set up for a fuel milage run at the end. This makes it even more important for the crews to make tough decisions when all is said and done. While an extra 100 miles doesn't seem like it would have much of an impact, everyone feels the extra racing and the teams that handle this the best will most likely be the ones who end up on the podium.

While drivers raced under the lights last weekend, the All-Star Race didn't do much to help to prepare them for this coming weekend. The teams that can keep up with the ever-changing conditions like changing surfaces and the cooling air in the evening have the best chance to win. While speed is a big component of this race, strategy will most likely be the trait that gets a driver to the winner's circle. With drivers getting qualifying and practice laps, they will get some time on the track, but this marathon is always changing with the length of the race. All that being said, this is setting up to be one of the more exciting races of the season.
All-Star Race Recap
Christopher Bell earned his first All-Star Race win last weekend and it wasn't only fun for Bell, but also for the packed stands enjoying the battle with Joey Logano over the final 28 laps of the race. What made a huge impact on the final leg of the race was Logano not pitting during the promoter's caution on Lap 216. It allowed Bell to have the better right-side tires and was most likely a big factor in the final laps.

NASCAR Playoff Standings
Kyle Larson leads the pack with 469 points and three wins this season. He has nine top 10 finishes and 8 top 5 finishes. He's been on quite the terror. Christopher Bell sits right behind with three wins as well, but only 384 points this season. Denny Hamlin sits in the third position with 346 points and two wins while William Byron and Joey Logano round out the top 5 with one win a piece. Byron has 434 points while Logano has 318 points. There are still plenty of spots up for grabs with spots 8 through 16 being held by drivers without a win. That means there are plenty of opportunities for drivers looking in from the outside.
