College Basketball Prediction From Robert Ferringo:

Take UCLA (-2) over Indiana (5 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 31)

We have racked up 85 of 141 wins in this space (61%) and I am 130-84 (61%) with my newsletter plays over the last 215 weeks. I’ll stab at UCLA here and take a shot at Indiana. The Hoosiers are in a prime letdown spot here. Fresh off a marquee win over Purdue, Indiana now has to head out to the West Coast and take on a Brins team that has talent but that hasn’t lived up to expectation this year. UCLA also beat Purdue at home last week and they have steadily been improving. UCLA should also be getting Skyy Clark back relatively soon. And even though they’ve been better without Clark, he will be a valuable piece off the bench. UCLA is the much better defensive team and they will have the home court edge. Indiana has played tough against a brutal Big Ten schedule. They have not been good outside of Bloomington this year, though, and I think they will struggle against a Bruins team that hasn’t lost at home yet this season and that is 12-2 SU in league play the last two years. NHL Prediction From Griffin Murphy:

Take Washington (-1.5) over N.Y. Islanders (7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 2)

Washington comes into this home game presently 25-21-7 on the year, 3-6-1 in their last 10 games and coming off a high scoring 6-5 loss to Edmonton last Saturday. Washington is a strong 14-10-3 at home this season, and the road play has been their true struggle. New York is also a solid 14-10-3 on the road, which will add buying pressure to the Islanders for this one. Logon Thompson is expected in net with a 18-15-4 record and a 2.35 GAA average. We expect Washington to buckle up at home and get ready for their back-to-back with Philadelphia on deck. This is a play where the public is looking ahead whilst we believe Washington is looking into the now. Let’s roll with the Capitals here.
