Five to Follow MLB Betting: Saturday August 30, 2014 Opening Line Report
by Alan Matthews - 8/29/2014
Just a reminder to everyone that baseball's waiver trade deadline is at 11:59 p.m. ET on Sunday, and there could be moves that will affect pennant races. Of course, the one problem for a team who claims a player is that the other team might just say: "keep him."
Tracking the Nationals: Season-Long MLB Picks and Handicapping for Washington Baseball
by Dave Schwab - 8/28/2014
This MLB regular season, I have incorporated the betting strategy of specialization by strictly handicapping the Washington Nationals and releasing weekly picks for their games with the use of Doc’s Unit Betting System. Doc’s has been posting these free picks to track my goal of generating a positive return on investment over the course of the entire MLB regular season.

Can you tell me the only two current franchises to never play in the World Series? The answer is Washington and Seattle. Both could make it this year, and that Fall Classic matchup is priced at +2500 on Sportsbook.ag. What do the Nats and Mariners have in common? Terrific pitching. They open a three-game series Friday night in the Pacific Northwest in the weekend's only interleague series. Here's a look at that game and four others.

I wouldn't consider it likely, but should either Oakland or the L.A. Angels sweep this weekend's four-game series, that team would take control of the AL West and the potential top seed in the American League. Should one team get swept, it might force that panicked GM to make a trade before the waiver deadline. The Angels, for example, are looking for starting pitching in the wake of Garrett Richards' injury. Oakland is the -150 division favorite at Sportsbook.ag,

You really shouldn't have been backing the wretched Texas Rangers regardless, but now don't even think about it the rest of the season. Outfielder Shin-Soo Choo is being shut down for the season, and while he's been a disappointment, he's still was one of the team's best healthy players left. In addition, ace Yu Darvish also likely will be shelved.

The Boston Red Sox clearly have given up at this point as they were just swept at home by the Seattle Mariners and have now lost eight straight games. And you know what? Management probably hopes the team continues to lose. It means a better draft pick and more slot money to sign those draft picks. Plus, if you finish with one of the 10 worst records in the league you don't have to cough up your first-round pick if you sign a top-tier free agent.
MLB Handicapping: Betting Large Moneylines for Dominant Pitchers
by George Monroy - 8/25/2014
Dominant pitching is a staple in Major League Baseball. Every season there are a handful of truly great pitchers that nearly guarantee their team a win each time they step on the mound. Those names change from year to year, and sometimes it may be a CC Sabathia, a Justin Verlander or a Clayton Kershaw, but the one thing they all have in common is that those pitchers can provide great betting value for baseball gamblers.
Five to Follow MLB Betting: Saturday August 23, 2014 Opening Line Report
by Alan Matthews - 8/22/2014
I love baseball and will continue these stories through the end of the regular season, but let's not kid ourselves here: This is the last Saturday that baseball is front and center on our betting minds with college football season set to kick off. There are six matinee matchups on the MLB schedule this Saturday, so that's a good thing. There need to be more matinee games every day of the season and always at least one. Listening Rob Manfred? Here's a look at five interesting matchups.
Tracking the Nationals: Season-Long MLB Picks and Handicapping for Washington Baseball

Anyone who bets on sports on a regular basis is always looking to create an edge in their overall betting strategy. I have been using specialization as my edge all season long when it comes to wagering on MLB games by strictly handicapping the Washington Nationals. Doc’s Sports has been releasing these free picks for Washington games on a weekly basis with the use of their Unit Betting System. My ultimate goal is to generate a positive return on investment over the course of the entire MLB regular season.
Five to Follow MLB Betting: Friday August 22, 2014 Opening Line Report
by Alan Matthews - 8/21/2014
Well, so much for my belief that the Los Angeles Angels would win not just the AL West but also the pennant. Now I see neither as happening barring an unlikely waiver trade after the major knee injury suffered by ace pitcher Garrett Richards on Wednesday night in Boston. If you haven't seen the video, well, it's not quite Paul George disturbing but close.
MLB Betting Advice: Hot and Cold Teams for Runline Wagering
by Ricky Dimon - 8/21/2014
Break up the Royals! With little more than five weeks left in the 2014 Major League Baseball season, Kansas City is in first place. That’s right; the boys in blue have a one-game lead in the American League Central over heavily-favored Detroit as of Wednesday afternoon. While the Royals are hot, the A’s currently find themselves at the other end of the spectrum. Oakland is still the second best team in baseball, but it is also the second best team in its own division.
Five to Follow MLB Betting: Thursday August 21, 2014 Opening Line Report
by Alan Matthews - 8/20/2014
Any day now, Cuban star Rusney Castillo is going to sign with a big-league club, and he could make an impact on the pennant races when the rosters expand in September if he goes to Detroit, San Francisco or the New York Yankees, three teams that could use outfield upgrades and are in the mix for him. Castillo can also play second or third. He isn't considered as powerful as Jose Abreu or Yoenis Cespedes but has above-average power and very good speed. He could be an interesting late-season addition. The Red Sox, Cubs and Phillies are in the mix too.
Five to Follow MLB Betting: Wednesday August 20, 2014 Opening Line Report
by Alan Matthews - 8/19/2014
There are four afternoon getaway day games on Wednesday -- all interleague matchups -- so be on the alert for some starters getting the day off in Rangers at Marlins, Mariners at Phillies, Blue Jays at Brewers and Mets at A's. Here's a look at five interesting matchups on the schedule. Bovada offers live betting on a whopping six games on Wednesday.
MLB Totals Betting Trends Report
by Aaron Smith - 8/19/2014
Earlier this year many people were wondering what happened on the totals front. What was the issue? The “over” was consistently outpacing the “under,” and every single one of our Totals Trends reports showed precisely that. In a piece a couple months ago, I mentioned that things can change on a dime. Even I couldn’t have predicted that they would change in the manner that they have, though.

We have a new World Series favorite at Sportsbook.ag: The Oakland Athletics' slump has cost them the top spot. They are +450 to win the Fall Classic, now behind the Los Angeles Dodgers (+400). That exact World Series matchup is priced at +600. Both the A's and Dodgers open a series on Tuesday night. Here's a look at their games and three other interesting matchups.
Five to Follow MLB Betting: Saturday August 16, 2014 Opening Line Report
by Alan Matthews - 8/15/2014
Here's hoping that new baseball commissioner Rob Manfred makes some substantial changes in the game. It's still great going to a game in person because it's so slow. You drink a few beers, chat with your friends or people around you, check your fantasy stats. But in the NFL, college football or NBA, people will watch teams on TV other than the one they root for.
Five to Follow MLB Betting: Thursday August 14, 2014 Opening Line Report
by Alan Matthews - 8/14/2014
If I gave you five chances to name the five American League playoff teams this season, would you ever have a scenario in which the Baltimore Orioles, Kansas City Royals and Seattle Mariners were part of the postseason? I didn't think so, but it could very well happen. As we get closer to September, look for individual teams' playoff odds at various sportsbooks. Here's a look at five interesting matchups on the schedule for Thursday.
Oakland Athletics at Atlanta Braves 8/15/14 Free MLB Picks & Predictions
by Chad Matthews - 8/14/2014
The Oakland Athletics head to Turner Field Friday to kick off a three-game set with the slumping Atlanta Braves. Oakland stirred things up a little earlier this month with the trade of emerging all-star Yoenis Cespedes to the Boston Red Sox for veteran pitcher John Lester. While the fans in Oakland had doubts about the trade so far, it has paid off in the Athletics favor. Lester has yet to lose, posting a perfect 3-0 record with the A’s.

To no surprise, the Colorado Rockies have ruled out Troy Tulowitzki for the rest of the season. It's a shame because Tulo might have been the NL MVP had he stayed healthy, and this move also will cost him the NL batting title. He leads the league by far in average at .340, but a player needs 502 plate appearances to qualify. Tulo will end his season with 375. Here's a look at five interesting matchups Friday around MLB.
