Nebraska at Wisconsin Predictions and College Football Betting Odds
by T.O. Whenham - 9/27/2011
When was the last time that the Big Ten had a major game with national implications and attention that didn’t involve Michigan or Ohio State? It happens occasionally, but it’s certainly the exception. That’s what we have here, though, when No. 8 Nebraska travels to Madison to face No. 7 Wisconsin in the first meeting between the historic programs since 1974. Of course, it’s also the first time that Nebraska has ever played a Big Ten contest, and that’s another thing that is tough to wrap your mind around.
College Football Predictions: Utah State vs. BYU Odds and Betting Picks
by T.O. Whenham - 9/27/2011
The Aggies and the Cougars meet on national TV on Friday night in the second most important in-state contest for each team. That’s not saying much since there are only three FBS teams in Utah, but the stakes are still high here. Both of these teams already have two losses, so neither can really afford another if they want to keep hopes of a decent bowl berth and a solid season alive.
College Football Picks: South Florida at Pitt Predictions and Betting Odds
by Alan Matthews - 9/27/2011
Is there any doubt that the Big East Conference is the weakest of all the BCS conferences? For one thing, there’s only one Big East team remaining without a loss and that is No. 16 South Florida as the Bulls open conference play on Thursday night’s ESPN national TV game at Pittsburgh. And secondly, USF is the only team in the conference with a win over a ranked team so far this year – coming in the season opener over Notre Dame, which isn’t ranked any longer.

Nebraska vs. Wisconsin showdown - When was the last time that a mega-battle with serious national implications was played in the Big Ten and didn’t feature Michigan or Ohio State? It happens occasionally, but almost never with stakes this high.
Weekly CFB Mid-Major Betting Report: Rice Owls Week 4
by Aaron Smith - 9/22/2011
The weekly mid-major report focuses on the Rice Owls. The goal of this report is to help the average bettor realize that specialization can be a profitable strategy. Rice was picked at random at the start of the season as the team that I will follow all year long. I’ll be pouring through statistics from every game, reading reports from Rice beat writers, following the players on Twitter, and using information gathering method I can to learn more about this year’s version of the Rice Owls.
College Football Picks: Mid-Major Game Day Predictions Week 4
by David Schwab - 9/21/2011
As the college football season starts to heat up with marquee matchups in the major conferences, the betting public sometimes forgets to tap into the tremendous value that exists in some of the games in the mid-majors. Each week we crunch the numbers in these ‘under the radar’ contests in an effort to mine this value out of the college football odds.
College Football Predictions: NC State at Cincinnati Odds and Betting Picks
by Alan Matthews - 9/20/2011
It’s a bit of a downer for this week’s Thursday night ESPN national TV game as, after getting ranked foes LSU and Mississippi State last week. This week it’s unranked North Carolina State and Cincinnati on the docket for this one. I can guarantee you one thing: There will be a ton more points scored by the Wolfpack and Bearcats than the 25 Tigers and Bulldogs managed.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Pitt Panthers Predictions and College Football Odds
by T.O. Whenham - 9/20/2011
This is a very different preview than I would have written for this game just a week ago. Going into last week’s contest the Irish were reeling. They had lost two in a row, they had collapsed in horrifying fashion against Michigan, and they had problems all over the field. It was like the ghost of Charlie Weis was coaching them still. While they didn’t answer all of the questions surrounding them last time out, their decisive win over Michigan State certainly eased the panic felt by fans and analysts at least a little bit.

Michigan’s new coach faces the worst nightmare for coaches this week - facing the team he just left -- when San Diego State travels to Michigan on Saturday. The Aztecs are a very solid team featuring a strong QB in Ryan Lindley and the No. 2 rusher in the country.
College Football Picks: Central Florida at BYU Odds and Betting Predictions
by T.O. Whenham - 9/20/2011
This is not how the dream was supposed to play out for either team. The BYU Cougars boldly went independent this season. They have a talented, well-coached team and they thought they could, if everything went perfectly, knock on the BCS door in their newly free state. They set up a schedule that would have people taking notice if they won. Unfortunately, they haven’t.
College Football Odds: Biggest Line Moves from Preseason Spreads
by Nicholas Tolomeo - 9/15/2011
Plenty of attention gets paid to line moves during football season. Opening college football lines are often adjusted from the beginning of the week until kickoff based on public action, among other things. This gives bettors a chance sometimes to get a better line or possibly middle a game.
College Football Picks: Mid-Major Game Day Predictions Week 3
by David Schwab - 9/14/2011
The betting public is often so infatuated with the marquee matchups on the college football schedule they often overlook the tremendous value that can be found in some of the games that may be ‘under the radar’ week after week. Each week we search for these ‘diamonds in the rough’ and after a rocky 1-2 start in Week 1, all three of our football picks last week were right on the money.
College Football Predictions: LSU at Mississippi State Betting Picks and Odds
by Alan Matthews - 9/13/2011
One would think that the quick turnaround for Thursday night’s game between No. 3 LSU and No. 25 Mississippi State would more benefit the Bulldogs considering they are the home team and this is their home opener (and LSU’s first true road game). As Lee Corso would say: “Not so fast my friends.”
College Football Picks: Oklahoma at Florida State Predictions and Betting Odds
by T.O. Whenham - 9/13/2011
This past week Oklahoma became the first ever team to be ranked No. 1 in the country 100 different weeks. That’s an impossibly impressive streak, but one that the Seminoles -- no strangers to the top spot themselves -- would very much like to bring to an end. For the first time in far too long Florida State is actually in a position to be nationally relevant at the highest levels, and everyone associated with the program is desperate to get there. They’ll also be hungry to wash the taste of the humiliating 47-17 loss to Oklahoma in the second game of the season last year from their mouths.
College Football Handicapping: Any Betting Value on Notre Dame?
by T.O. Whenham - 9/13/2011
Many people had the Fighting Irish picked as a BCS team as they looked to shake of years and years of frustration. It’s not even the middle of September, though, and those BCS dreams are — at best — on life support. When a team that is this public and well liked (and hated) by fans it’s especially important to have a sense of what they are capable of and what to expect from them. Here’s a look at six factors that have contributed to where this team is at, and will have a continued impact on where they might go this year.
College Football Odds: Boise State at Toledo Predictions and Betting Picks
by T.O. Whenham - 9/12/2011
Need proof that, despite all of their success and praise, Boise State still isn’t on par with the big boys? You need look no further than Friday’s game. That’s when the Broncos travel to Toledo to play the Rockets. What are the chances that an elite program from a major conference would ever travel to Toledo? Almost none.
Weekly Big Ten Betting Report
by T.O. Whenham - 9/12/2011
The Wolverines are 2-0 and they just won the most exciting game of the season. Fans are giddy. There’s a problem, though -- the team really is pretty terrible. The offense is wildly inconsistent and only Denard Robinson’s magic and some horrible secondary play by Notre Dame got them the win.
College Football Odds: Most Interesting Matchups for Week 3
by T.O. Whenham - 9/12/2011
We are heading into the third week of what has already been a thrilling, surprising, and satisfying college football season. Some things we were sure we knew have been proven false, and some things that seemed impossible have happened. This coming weekend promises to be just as exciting as the ones that have come before it. Here are 10 games that stand out as interesting from a betting perspective, with college football odds included:
College Football Handicapping: Teams Better Than Expected
by T.O. Whenham - 9/12/2011
We are just two weeks into the college football season, but already a whole lot of what we thought we knew has changed. There are teams that we thought were very good that are having trouble living up to those expectations — Georgia, Notre Dame, and Oregon leap to mind. Then there are the teams that are showing even more than we anticipated.
College Football Handicapping: The Experience Factor
by Darin Zank - 9/9/2011
We all know, or at least we should know, that three key factors go into handicapping college football games: talent, coaching and experience. Talent and coaching can go a long way toward a team's success, both in winning games and covering pointspreads. But there's also something to be said about experience, and handicappers should take this intangible into account. Phil Steele certainly does.
