The Detroit Tigers are struggling since losing their best offensive player, Riley Green, a little over a week ago. Keep in mind, though, that all of these recent losses have come away from home, and when Detroit has been at home they've actually played very well of late, winning 14 of their last 24 and making their followers more than 7 units of profits in those last 24 games. They are scheduled to hand the baseball here to starter Michael Lorenzen in this one. The 31-year-old right-hander has been solid this year for the Tigers as it appears the Detroit pitching coaches have figured a few things out in his first year with the organization. Lorenzen comes into this game having allowed one or fewer runs in five of his last six starts. Even more eye opening is the fact that he's allowed just one earned run and posted an eye popping 0.46 in his last three home starts. Ben Lively got off to a tough start last Sunday, allowing a three-run homer to Andrew Monasterio in the first inning. However, he settled down and held the Brewers to two runs over his next six innings. Lively had been pitching well coming into that outing; he hadn't allowed more than two runs in any of his previous three starts. He now sports a respectable 3.03 ERA and 1.01 WHIP on the year. The Cardinals got swept by the Pirates last weekend, and head to Texas as we write this on Monday. The Cardinals have struggled this season and are in last place in the NL Central at 25-35, and the Reds are actually ahead of them in the standings, sitting in 4th place, at 26-33. We will back Lively in this one as the public will likely be all over the Cardinals coming back home after the long roadie, and we think the Reds get it done Friday evening. This is not brain surgery to pick against Oakland at this point of the season. At the time this went to post, the Athletics on the season were being outscored by 3.4 runs per game, and within that average are their victories. On the money line, they are easily the best Play Against team in baseball, down more than 30 units, and even on the run line they are close to losing 20 units. This franchise is a disgrace to MLB and they really have nowhere to turn because they are bringing up Triple-A players weekly. Milwaukee is hardly having a great season. And their kryptonite is facing left-handed pitching (scoring just 2.7 RPG) in which they have the feeblest offense in baseball. However, the Brew Crew is supposed to face A’s righty Luis Medina (0-5, 8.19 ERA). Milwaukee covers the run line between him and the worst bullpen in the big leagues. However, I think it will open around 8.5. The Cubs have played ‘under’ in seven straight games. That should help keep this number down, though. The Angels have played ‘over’ in six of their last nine games, and their pitching staff has fallen apart. The Angels have allowed an average of 5.3 runs per game over their last 10 games. These have been two of the best lineups in baseball against left-handed pitching. Reid Detmers has an ERA over 5.00 and has surrendered 22 runs in the last 29 innings he has been on the mound (6.83 ERA). The ‘over’ is 7-3 in Chicago’s last 10 interleague games, and the ‘over’ is 10-1 in their last 11 games in an American League park.
