Take #958 Arizona (-135) over New York Mets (9 p.m., Thursday, July 6)

The New York Mets have been one of the biggest disappointments in baseball this year as they've cost their backers more than 16 units overall on the season. There are no signs things are getting better either as the Mets have gone 9-19 overall since June 2. Carlos Carrasco is scheduled to get the start in this one and Carrasco has been a mess this season posting an ugly 5.94 ERA on the year. On the other side of things Arizona has been one of the bigger surprises in the league this year winning their backers more than 12 units thus far. The Diamondbacks will go with starter Ryne Nelson in this one. Nelson looks to be figuring things out as the 25 year-old right-hander has posted a 1.26 ERA in his last two starts and both of those outings have come against two above averages offenses (San Francisco and the LAA Angels). Take ‘Over’ 2.5 Qatar vs. Panama (7 p.m., Saturday, July 8)

That is now 10 of 13 wins in this space and I am 55-31 (64%) with my free newsletter plays over the last 86 weeks. Right now this number is paying out at +120 so there is a lot of value with this quarterfinals selection. This entire tournament has been absurdly high-scoring. In fact, 20 of 24 matches have gone ‘over’ the total. There is no reason to think that this will be any different. Qatar is coming off a 1-0 upset win over Mexico, one of the rare low-scoring matches. However, there probably should’ve been at least four goals in that match as they were bombarded with shots from El Tri. Qatar is going to be playing without its goalie, Meshaal Barsham, and he played out of his mind in that Mexico match. This side has scored and given up a ton of goals over the last several years. I can see Qatar punching one in themselves and this feels like a 2-1 or 3-1 win for Panama.
