College Football Weekly Predictions: Week 13
by Alan Matthews - 11/26/2009
I really should know better than to ever recommend Notre Dame. The Irish were giving six points in their home finale to UConn last week, and of course they lost straight up. That means the Irish have now dropped their home finale to a Big East team two years running (last year to awful Syracuse) and are a combined 1-6 vs. the Big East and Navy the past three seasons.

College Football Weekly Predictions: Week 12
by Alan Matthews - 11/19/2009
In many respects, this is the final full weekend of the college football regular season because the Big Ten shuts it down after Week 12, although a few of the teams do have a non-conference game left. But the season is rapidly approaching an end, so we need a strong finish to end up at least +500 on the regular season. But you can look for some bowl prediction stories as well.

College Football Weekly Predictions: Week 11
by Alan Matthews - 11/13/2009
Just as I will crow occasionally about nailing a pick, so must I when I completely misread one. Unfortunately, I misread two last week: Penn State -4 vs. Ohio State and Oklahoma -5 at Nebraska. I wasn't totally sold on Penn State, in all honesty, but did think the Nittany Lions would win by a touchdown.

College Football Weekly Predictions: Week 10
by Alan Matthews - 11/5/2009
OK, I've now learned two things betting-wise so far this year: Never take a Big 12 North team against a team from the conference's South division and never take Idaho against anyone. I'm bitter because Kansas laid another egg last week, as the Jayhawks were pummeled 42-21 by Texas Tech.

College Football Weekly Predictions: Week 9
by Alan Matthews - 10/29/2009
At least I wasn't 0-3! That's about the only positive I take from last week's 1-2 record, our first losing week in the past four. Frankly, I think I picked with my heart over my head in the Miami-Clemson game, and I can almost guarantee you I never pick Idaho again. The Vandals scored 45 points and still didn't cover? That's a WAC game for you. I am now 13-11 on the season.

College Football Weekly Predictions: Week 8
by Alan Matthews - 10/22/2009
For the second week in a row, a Big Ten team cost me a 3-0 week - this time it was Illinois not only not covering the two points against Indiana but laying down in a 27-14 loss. Why does Ron Zook still have a job, seriously? On the bright side, I told you to take Mississippi State -4.5 against Middle Tennessee State and Notre Dame +10 against Southern Cal - hitting on both of those. It's my third 2-1 week in a row, and I am now 12-9 on the season, a tidy +300.

College Football Weekly Predictions: Week 7
by Alan Matthews - 10/15/2009
Stupid Wisconsin! I'm not sure I've seen a team dominate a game so thoroughly on offense and defense but lose by 18 points. The Badgers, who were +16.5, outgained Ohio State last Saturday by nearly 200 yards, and had 22 first downs to the Buckeyes' eight. But OSU had two interception returns for touchdowns as well as a kick-return TD.

College Football Weekly Predictions: Week 6
by Alan Matthews - 10/8/2009
After sitting at 6-6 through five weeks, I took a different tack last weekend and went with three favorites. And it worked pretty well, as I had a 2-1 week, making it 8-7 on the year and up $100 again. We whiffed badly on Florida State -3.5 at Boston College. I honestly can't figure out the Seminoles, who have a ton of talent but obviously aren't being coached very well. We hit on Michigan State giving three points at home to Michigan - that game wasn't close until the final minutes, with Tate Forcier rallying the Wolverines and sending the game in OT.

College Football Weekly Predictions - Week 5
by Alan Matthews - 10/2/2009
I liked three road dogs last week for our best of the best, and two of them came back to bite me to even our record this season at 6-6. We nailed TCU somehow getting points at Clemson, and the Horned Frogs won straight up, as I expected they would. But both Arkansas (at Alabama) and Illinois (at Ohio State) put up lousy offensive efforts, and neither came close to covering. Maybe it's time to look at some favorites.

College Football Handicapping: Ole Miss Opens SEC At USC
by Matt Severance - 9/22/2009
Ole Miss is shining on defense despite not getting much from star defensive end Greg Hardy, who sprained his ankle in the opener and sat out last week. But Hardy, a potential first-round NFL pick and one of the best pass-rushers in the country, is being called probable to play Thursday night against South Carolina. The host Gamecocks are 3-point dogs on BetUS.

College Football Weekly Predictions - Week 3
by Alan Matthews - 9/17/2009
That's more like it! We evened our season record at 3-3 on the sides last week thanks to Kansas covering the -12.5 against UTEP and West Virginia covering the 6.5 it was giving East Carolina in a 35-20 win. The loss was North Carolina, which beat Connecticut but fell a few points off a cover.

College Football Weekly Predictions - Week 2
by Alan Matthews - 9/11/2009
OK, it's Week 2 of college football season, and Week 1 wasn't exactly a huge success. I didn't realize that Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen has now morphed in Joe Montana, and the Irish bombed Nevada, which seemed a lock getting more than two touchdowns. As for the other loss … well, it sure looked like a win until Memphis (+17) folded in the fourth quarter last Sunday at home against Ole Miss.
