Florida State Seminoles Odds to Win the 2015 College Football National Championship
by George Monroy - 6/20/2014
The Florida State Seminoles ended last season in the most dramatic and thrilling way possible. The Seminoles completed a perfect 14-0 season by beating the Auburn Tigers in the BCS National Championship Game 34-31 after falling into an 18-point deficit early in the second quarter. The game was ultimately decided by a 49-yard touchdown completion with 13 seconds left on the clock.
Florida State ended the SEC's reign of seven straight BCS title wins and will now look to become the first team to win the newly-instituted national title tournament. 2015 will see a mini-BCS tournament between the Top 4-ranked schools in the nation in order to produce a champion. Let's take a closer look at the defending national champion, preview their upcoming season and go over their title odds.
Florida State Odds to win the 2015 National Championship Story Lines
Coach Jimbo Fisher will have 17 players from last year's national title team returning for 2014. Most importantly, however, is the fact that last year's Heisman Trophy winner, and starting quarterback, Jameis Winston, will be returning for his sophomore season. Florida State featured one of the most dynamic offenses in the nation under the rookie quarterback and ended in the Top 6 in total yards and points scored.
On defense the squad was ranked in the Top 3 in fewest totals yards, passing yards and points allowed. Florida State will be returning eight players from last season's defensive powerhouse and will add a slew of talented recruits from the offseason. Kain Daub, a linebacker from Jacksonville, Florida, is expected to be a key part of the team's structure during the 2014-15 season.
Florida State is set to have another rough scheduling year as they will face the tough mix of ranked schools from the ACC. Another undefeated season, however, is not necessarily a requirement in order for the team to repeat as national champions. A four-team playoff means that the team could suffer a loss and still be a shoe-in for the tournament.
Florida State 2015 National Championship Odds and Props
National Championship Odds
Florida State +600
Florida State is currently the favorite to win the 2015 national championship with +600 odds, according to Sportsbook.ag. Alabama and Oregon are second and third on the list with similar odds, while the rest of the nation is considered to be far behind, at least in the eyes of the oddsmakers.
Last season Florida State produced an 11-3 ATS record and was one of the most consistent teams for bettors to wager on. The squad also produced a 10-4 totals record and continually stood head and shoulders above the rest of the nation. The Seminoles have two other wagers on the board at most sites, a "Will Florida State compete in the playoff semifinals?" prop and Winston's odds to win this year's Heisman Trophy. He is the favorite to win the award for a second consecutive season.
Florida State 2015 Odds to win the 2015 National Championship Predictions
Florida State is set to have another high-quality year and will probably be at the top of the rankings for the entire season. The team may be more talented on the defensive end than 2014's national title team. Looking to wager on the squad throughout the year could be an excellent opportunity to make a profit on college football.
However, a mini-BCS playoff could throw a wrench in the team's title hopes. That is not to say they are not talented enough, it's simply because the college football playoff is a new experiment. Florida State looks like the best team in the nation, and wagering on them to win the title is as solid of futures wagers as a bettor can make.
