2015 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Over'
Hey, did you hear that Michigan has a new coach?
Jim Harbaugh brings his khakis and unblemished track record of success to Ann Arbor to try to resurrect a Michigan program that has floundered since the start of the 2008 season. Harbaugh has a veteran team to work with and will be installing new systems on both sides of the ball; systems similar to the ones he used to reinvigorate Stanford from 2007-2010.
Michigan has six starters back on offense and seven on defense. And they could have as many as 16 senior starters. The key will be finding a reliable quarterback between Shane Morris, transfer Jake Rudock (who I think is a dud) or one of the freshmen on the roster. Regardless, Harbaugh will lean heavily on the run game, and Michigan has a full stable of backs running behind a large, experienced offensive line.
Harbaugh's tenure will begin with a tough road trip out to Utah. But following that they get five of their next six games at The Big House. The Wolverines do get their two toughest opponents, Michigan State and Ohio State, at home. But trips to Minnesota and Penn State won't be easy.
Michigan has a team built for the style of football that Harbaugh likes to play. He wants to run the ball and win with defense. And I think the Wolverine seniors will take to his program quickly. I think that the Wolverines could lose at Utah, will lose to Michigan State and Ohio State, and will lose one of the tricky road games. That's four losses. But I think they will win everything else.
Harbaugh is a proven commodity. And I think he'll get Michigan to 8-4 and 'over' this season win total.
