2025 Creighton Bluejays Basketball Predictions and Odds to Win National Championship

The Creighton Bluejays finished the regular season 22-9 overall and 15-5 in the Big East conference which was good enough for a second-place finish, behind just St. John’s. They began the season with a four-game winning streak before a cold streak hit at the end of November. They lost three straight games against Nebraska, San Diego State, and #20 Texas A&M by an average of 11 points. However, they responded by knocking off the #1 ranked Kansas Jayhawks. At the end of the season, they finished with a 3-5 record against ranked opponents. When it came to the Big East tournament, they were challenged by DePaul who took them to double overtime before the Bluejays were able to avoid the early upset with a four-point victory. After that, they beat the UConn Huskies in the conference semifinals. Creighton was dominated by St. John’s as they fell in the conference championship by the Red Storm after a disastrous 16-point loss. When it came time for the Big Dance, they entered the tournament as a 9-Seed and took down 8-seed Louisville with a 14-point win. Unfortunately, their season ended in the second round at the hands of the top seeded Auburn Tigers who pulled away late and eliminated Creighton.

The offense was average. They ranked fifth in the conference with 75.5 PPG while shooting incredibly efficient with a 47.7% FG%. They led the conference in defensive rebounds, though that rebounding effort was nearly nonexistent on the offense. Their 72.8% FT% also ranked fifth in the conference. Despite ranking just sixth in the conference in points allowed, they held opponents to just 70 PPG while holding them to a mere 41.4% FG%. Their +6.3% FG% led the Big East while their +5.4 APG ranked second. Ryan Kalkbrenner led the team with 19.2 PPG, 8.7 RPG, and with a 65.3% FG%. Steven Ashworth was a great compliment to Kalkbrenner as he averaged 16.4 PPG while shooting 93% from the charity stripe and 37.4% from beyond the arc. Jamiya Neal averaged 12 PPG while adding 6.1 RPG and 4.4 APG. Pop Isaacs left a lot to be desired as he averaged 16.3 PPG but was limited to just eight games last season.
Key Additions/Losses
The losses piled up for the Bluejays after the season. They lost Kalkbrenner to the NBA and Ashworth and Neal to eligibility. If that wasn’t enough, Isaacs transferred to Texas A&M. Mason Miller and Fred King transferred to Murray State.
To replace all the losses, Creighton brought in the 12th best transfer class over the course of the offseason. While most of their attention was focused on the transfer portal, they did sign four star shooting guard Hudson Greer out of high school. The transfer class brought in some great experience. They signed center Owen Freeman who averaged 16.7 PPG and 6.7 RPG with the Iowa Hawkeyes last season. In addition to Freeman, former Hawkeye Josh Dix joined up with his Iowa teammate. Dix was one of the best three-point shooters in the country as he averaged 14.4 PPG while shooting 42.2% from deep. They brought in sophomore guard Blaker Harper who averaged 19.5 PPG, 6.2 RPG, and 3.4 APG for Howard last season. If that isn’t enough scoring, they also signed guard Nik Graves who averaged 17.5 PPG for Charlotte last season while shooting over 41% from the floor. Creighton also signed Austin Swartz who will provide some nice depth as he averaged 5.9 PPG in 18.7 MPG with Miami last season.
X-Factors
The New Boys- After losing nearly every significant player from last years roster, Creighton has had to replace all that talent in order to maintain a competitive team. While Kalkbrenner was one of the best players in the country, Freeman while fill the hole nicely and may even have more offensive potential. To counteract any space that Freeman doesn’t fill, Nix will open up the floor a lot for his big man as he is a lethal threat from deep. Harper and Graves are wild cards as they try and jump up a tier in terms of talent. If they can replicate their numbers from last year then Creighton will end up being one of the best teams in the country, not just the Big East. With all that said, the new kids on the block have to gel together and that may take some time.

2025 Creighton Bluejays Predictions
Dix and Freeman have shared the court for some time now and getting a dynamic duo like that in the transfer portal is a hot commodity. Now that they are in Creighton blue, they need to continue their good rapport on the court and lead the other newbies. The Bluejays have one of the highest ceilings in the country, but if the experiment fails the floor can fall out from beneath them at any minute. At +1400 to win the Big East, Creighton is worth a flier. They do not get to host any significant games outside of conference play which may make it more difficult for them to boost their resume, but they will get a chance to prove themselves early with a road game at #21 Gonzaga. Creighton will return to March Madness as a legit 3-Seed that is capable of making a deep run. Remember the Bluejays as the season unfolds.
