You have found the right place for all your Atlanta Hawks betting needs, as Doc’s Sports will be providing free picks and best bets all year long. While we won’t always favor the Hawks, using in-depth knowledge of the roster combined with insights from around the league, we will be able to churn a consistent profit.
On Monday night, Atlanta took down the Los Angeles Clippers 105-102. This was a crucial road win for Atlanta and marks the first time this season they have an above .500 record. Vit Krejci’s scoring led the Hawks off the bench, as he poured in a career high 28 points while shooting 8/10 from behind the arc. Krejci has been a depth player in Atlanta for the last three seasons, but injuries have consistently derailed his momentum. The Hawks stormed back from a 17-point first-quarter deficit to collect the win, starting their four-game road trip on the right foot. The Clippers got a 35-point triple double from James Harden, but the Hawks' defense clamped down on the rest of the Clippers. Los Angeles got only 8 assists from everyone else combined, and went 24/59 from the floor.

From a betting perspective, we posted a 3-0 clean sweep. The Atlanta Hawks covered the +5 point spread with ease, and also cashed our +165 moneyline wager. In the player prop department, Dyson Daniels logged three steals in the first half, cashing the over 2.5 bet. This was our second clean sweep of the season, as we are now 4-0 on moneyline picks with an impressive 7-1 record on player props.
Tonight, the Atlanta Hawks (6-5) head to Sacramento to take on the Kings (3-8). This is a very winnable game for Atlanta, as they play the first night of a back-to-back before heading to Utah tomorrow. The Hawks' depth will once again be tested, but they have a favorable matchup against the free-falling Kings. Sacramento has lost three straight games by 14+ points, all of which were at home. Golden 1 Center has been far from a fortress this season, and it appears as though general manager Scott Perry is ready to tear it all down and start from scratch.
Just yesterday, Perry said that the Kings fans should prepare for a full rebuild as he explores trades for all three of his All-Stars. DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine, and Domantas Sabonis are all very talented, but they have been unable to click in Sacramento. LaVine and DeRozan are both ball handlers who need to be volume shooters to operate, and they have struggled to find chemistry when on the floor together. Perry elected to bring both to Sacramento despite the fact that the pair struggled together in Chicago the season prior. However, all hope is not lost for the Kings. Keegan Murray is a promising wing who is expected to return from injury in the near future, while the Kings still have a solid prospect pool and more draft picks than most teams. While there is still hope in the long run, the Kings have little hope for anything positive from this matchup. Sacramento is on the second night of a back-to-back after losing to Denver yesterday, and will likely be without a few key pieces as players sit out due to rest. A starting five featuring DeRozan, LaVine, Sabonis, Precious Achiuwa, and Dennis Schroder shouldn’t be tanking like the Kings are, especially with Malik Monk and Russell Westbrook coming off the bench. The reality is that basketball is still a team sport, and the chemistry in Sacramento pales in comparison to what the Hawks have been developing.
Trae Young is still the best player on the Hawks roster, but his early-season injury could be a blessing in disguise for the future of the franchise. Young is a ball handler who is almost always involved in the offense, as his scoring and passing abilities are off the charts. Since his injury, the rest of the Hawks have gotten the ball in their hands more often and have been able to develop the crucial chemistry they need to succeed. It was always going to be a slow start for the Hawks after a slew of roster changes this offseason, and it appears as though they are finally finding their groove. Jalen Johnson is a beast on both ends of the court, while Nickeil Alexander-Walker has been more than the 3-and-D wing he was advertised as. Zaccharie Risacher has started his sophomore season on the right foot, while there have been impactful players shining off the Hawks' bench. While this is certainly a positive, the real development in Atlanta has been Dyson Daniels. Daniels has been forced to develop his offensive game with Young on the sidelines, and has flourished in his new role. He is still a menace on the defensive end of the floor, and that will always be his best attribute, but he is no longer a liability on offense. After three straight games of 18 points, Daniels shifted his focus to playmaking and has logged 9.7 assists over his last three contests. His ability to drive to the hoop before kicking the ball out spreads the floor on offense, and he has allowed others to finish off his highlight reel plays. If Daniels can continue to stay effective on offense when Young returns in a few weeks, the Hawks will have a dynamic backcourt duo that can go toe-to-toe with anyone in the East.
In this matchup, the Hawks are -160 moneyline favorites with a -3.5 point spread in their favor. The Kings' home court advantage is canceled out by Atlanta’s rest advantage, and there is no reason to fade the red-hot Hawks against the ice-cold Kings. Sacramento is ranked 24th and 27th in offensive and defensive rating this season, but they have had the second-hardest strength of schedule so far this year. However, their inability to move the basketball on offense, coupled with the Hawks excellent team play, will allow Atlanta to emerge victorious. We won’t go crazy, but taking the Hawks moneyline at -160 is worthy of a couple of units.
For the second bet of the night, we will take Nickeil Alexander-Walker to stay under 17.5 points. He is coming off a back injury and is currently questionable to play, and I expect the Hawks to ease him back into action if he does suit up. Atlanta has options off the bench to deploy, and they will not force Alexander-Walker to overwork himself with this type of injury.
Finally, we will take Dyson Daniels to score at least one three at +130 odds. Daniels only has three threes in his last nine games, but he has taken at least one attempt in six of those contests. The Kings will look to leave him open from deep, as they often do against playmaking guards, and that will give Daniels at least one chance to knock down an open shot. If we get one attempt, this play has value; anything more, and it becomes even better.
