NBA Betting: Atlanta Hawks Season Long Handicapping 11/4/2025 vs. Orlando Magic

All year long, Doc’s Sports will be breaking down every Atlanta Hawks weekday game while providing best bets along the way. By using knowledge on the Hawks and the league as a whole, we will be able to churn a consistent profit throughout the year.
On Halloween, the Atlanta Hawks won their first game of the NBA Cup, beating the Indiana Pacers 128-108. Not only did the Hawks get a crucial road win in the NBA Cup, but they proved they can still compete without Trae Young. Young will be out for at least the next month, and the Hawks cannot afford to fall too many games below .500 in his absence. Jalen Johnson led the way with 22 points, 13 rebounds, and 8 assists, but it was the Hawks' balanced scoring that allowed them to prevail. Seven players scored at least 11 points, including Dyson Daniels’ 18 points as he finally snapped his cold streak on the offensive end. The Hawks rammed 74 paint points down the throats of a shorthanded Indiana side, which was the driving force behind their 20-point victory. Unlike the regular season, point differential is the primary tiebreaker in the NBA Cup, making every bucket that much more valuable in the competition.
From a betting perspective, we had the best night in the four-year history of this column. We went a perfect 6-0 on our picks, as our aggression towards alternate spreads for the Hawks paid off in a big way. We cashed -2.5 (-110), -6.5 (+145), -10.5 (+235), -14.5 (+400), and -19.5 (+760), climbing the ladder to the final rung as the Hawks won by exactly 20 points. To cap it off, Jalen Johnson also cleared his 25.5 Points + Assists line, giving us the clean sweep in the NBA Cup. We recorded a total profit of 14.24 units, shooting us into the green as we look ahead for the rest of the season.
The Hawks also played on Sunday night, losing 117-109 to the Cleveland Cavaliers. They were able to dominate in the paint, but the Cavaliers scored 20 3s while Atlanta scored just 6. That massive point swing was too much to overcome, dropping the Hawks back under .500.

Tonight, the Atlanta Hawks (3-4) host the Orlando Magic (3-4) in a battle between two Eastern Conference contenders. Neither side has gotten off to the start they had hoped for, but there is still 75 games left to get back on track. The Hawks and Magic already played this season, with the Hawks picking up a road win by a 111-107 scoreline. It was a very evenly matched game throughout, but the Hawks' 33-21 fourth quarter allowed them to storm back for the win. Both teams shot under 30% from behind the arc and under 50% from the field, and another defensive battle is expected at State Farm Arena.
Life isn’t easy anytime a team loses its leading scorer. Trae Young’s impact on this offense can be compared to the role of an NFL quarterback, as everything ran through the talented guard. Luckily for the Hawks, they have other offensive talents to pick up the slack, but there is no denying the identity of this team shifts dramatically with Young out of the lineup. Not only does Young have a positive impact on the Hawks' offense, but he also has a negative impact on their defense. Atlanta brought in Dyson Daniels to offset Young’s defensive liabilities, and they suddenly have a very strong defense with Young out of the lineup. Jalen Johnson, Kristaps Porzingis, and Nickeil Alexander-Walker are all very strong defenders, as this team is capable of making up for its lack of offense by shutting things down on the other end of the court.
With Young out, this becomes Jalen Johnson’s team on offense. Johnson has scored 22+ points in four straight games, tacking on 9.8 rebounds and 5 assists in that span. His ability to bring the ball up the court is unlike most players his size, as Johnson can distribute, generate his own offense, and be the offensive spark the Hawks need. On the other hand, the Hawks will need a genuine team effort on offense to stay afloat over the next month. Daniels needs to keep his shooting rhythm alive after a slow start, while the Hawks' bench must maintain the energy they have been bringing on the court. The Orlando Magic are a strong defensive team themselves, as nothing will come easy on that end of the court tonight.
Revenge will be on the mind of Orlando, but I am not sure they will find success against the Hawks. Atlanta showed they can stifle an emerging Magic offense in their earlier meeting, and there will be little to separate the two relatively healthy squads. Orlando has tough games against the Celtics and Knicks upcoming, so this could be a spot where they overlook a Young-less Hawks. Atlanta is a home underdog tonight, and there is no way we can turn down +3.5 on the point spread. The Hawks are still looking for their first home win of the season, and they will be able to keep this one close at the very least. Orlando doesn’t have the three-point shooting to offset the Hawks' domination in the paint. When Atlanta scores several easy buckets all night long, Orlando will find themselves needing a similar fourth-quarter comeback as to what Atlanta did to them last month.
For the second bet of the night, we will be taking Under 229.5 points. These two combined for 218 last time they met, and that was with the offensive-minded Young on the court. The Hawks have been able to shut things down since his injury, and another strong defensive showing is on the cards tonight. Orlando’s lack of a three-ball prevents them from running up the score, as they have seen four of their last five games have 230 or fewer points. The Hawks have seen four of their last six stay under that mark, and another relatively low-scoring contest can be expected between these two teams.
