NFL Survivor Pool Picks Week 14: Advice and Predictions

The greatest accomplishment in sports is winning an NFL survivor pool. Stringing together 18 consecutive winners, without repeating teams, is no easy task, and less than 1% of entrants will make it to the final month of the season. Last week, there were a few big upsets that rocked the world of survivor pools. The Los Angeles Rams (-10.5), Baltimore Ravens (-7), and Philadelphia Eagles (-7) all lost outright. The favorites went 9-7 straight up, but both of our top picks cashed with ease. Our official selection was the Los Angeles Chargers, who won by 17, while the contrarian pick of the week, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, edged out the Cardinals. There are five weeks left in the regular season, as we are one week closer to the ultimate goal. Here are your Week 14 survivor pool picks, ranked from most to least confident.
Doc’s Sports offers NFL expert picks for every game on our NFL predictions page.
Los Angeles Rams (-8.5) Over Arizona Cardinals
The Rams will be out for blood after losing to the Panthers last week, and they are the most confident pick of the week. MVP favorite Matthew Stafford threw two interceptions last week, including a pick-six, equaling his total from the previous 12 games this season. That simply won’t happen again against the Cardinals, and we can’t trust Arizona to match the Rams' lethal offensive productivity. Their remaining two home games this year are against the Lions and the Cardinals, but the Arizona matchup is in Week 18, so it is too risky to save this team any longer. If you haven’t used Los Angeles already, now is the time.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-8.5) Over New Orleans Saints
Tampa Bay will be our official selection of the week, as we have already used a majority of the other big favorites. The Buccaneers edged past the Cardinals last week and now take on a helpless Saints side. Tyler Shough has shown signs of life, but there are still way too many holes on both sides of the ball for the Saints to be expected to compete. The Buccaneers do have a couple of very winnable games down the stretch, but this is still their easiest remaining matchup. We have been keeping the Buccaneers in the back pocket for this exact moment, and it is time to pull the trigger.
Seattle Seahawks (-7.5) Over Atlanta Falcons
There isn’t much hope for Atlanta this season, as the injuries combined with inconsistent quarterback play have them looking ahead to the draft next season. On the other hand, the Seahawks have stormed to the top of the NFC West with six wins in their last seven games, and the Falcons will not be the ones to slow them down. Atlanta does have a strong passing defense, but the Seahawks have shown a willingness to run the ball when the passing game isn’t opening up. They will do so again here and grind their way to a physical win.
Denver Broncos (-7.5) Over Las Vegas Raiders
This team keeps finding ways to win, and they will do so again when they head to Las Vegas. The Raiders' firing of Chip Kelly was a step in the right direction, but the reality is this is one of the worst teams in the league. It’s a miracle that Geno Smith still has the starting job, and a hungry Denver defense will make his life miserable. Did Denver look good in their last gasp overtime win against the Commanders? Absolutely not. But this is still a team on a nine-game win streak, and that will take care of business against the lowly Raiders.
Green Bay Packers (-6.5) Over Chicago Bears
The Bears' recent win streak has been impressive, but they will be up against it when they head to Green Bay. The Packers know this is a huge game with divisional implications, and they have stepped up when it matters most in the Jordan Love era. Caleb Williams and company will struggle against the Green Bay defense led by Micah Parsons, and they will be unable to slow them down on either side of the ball. It’s daunting to fade a Bears side that has won nine of their last ten games, but this is the last time to use Green Bay if you haven’t already. The Packers have road games against the Bears, Vikings, and Broncos, and a home affair against the Ravens to end the season.
Cleveland Browns (-3.5) Over Tennessee Titans
If you want to save the big teams for another week, this is a rare occurrence where the Browns make sense in a survivor pool. Cleveland’s defense will completely shut down the Titans, and it will likely take only one offensive touchdown to pick up this win. Shedeur Sanders has his flaws, but his willingness to push the ball down the field will lead the Browns to a rare win. We don’t have to worry about saving the Browns for another week, and this will be the official contrarian selection with the options running thin.
Baltimore Ravens (-5.5) Over Pittsburgh Steelers
This is a huge game at the top of the AFC North, and the Ravens are a solid pick with their season on the line. Baltimore has extra rest after playing on Thursday last week, and will be able to match the Steelers' physicality in the trenches. The Pittsburgh defense falls apart week after week, and there will be no grand recovery from the league’s highest-paid unit. This will be the last chance to use Baltimore, and while you have probably already used them, they are a sneaky good pick in Week 14 if you haven’t.
Detroit Lions (-3) Over Dallas Cowboys
Dallas is incredibly overhyped after a couple of wins, and they are still no match for the complete roster the Lions roll out. Detroit has the better defense, the more experienced coach, and has turned Ford Field into a fortress this season. Don’t be alarmed by this short spread, as the Lions are a solid pick with no easy games left on the schedule.
Kansas City Chiefs (-3.5) Over Houston Texans
Kansas City knows how to win when they need to, and they definitely need a win to close the gap in the Wild Card race. Houston has a vulnerable offensive line that won’t be able to withstand Steve Spagnolo’s blitzes. Both teams have a pair of strong defenses, but we have no choice but to side with Patrick Mahomes when this one is close in the fourth quarter. However, the Chiefs do still have games against the Raiders and Titans on their schedule, making them one you may want to save if you have made it this far without using the AFC champions.
Buffalo Bills (-5.5) Over Cincinnati Bengals
These are two desperate teams that may miss the playoffs with a loss. We saw what Joe Burrow’s return did to this team, lifting their offense and inspiring belief in their defense. The Bengals' defense still is a work in progress, which gives the edge to Buffalo in a crucial matchup. Josh Allen knows how to take what the defense gives him, and the Bengals will be vulnerable to a couple of deep shots over the top. While the Bills are a decent choice, they still have the Jets and Browns later this season, which could be much easier wins than this one.
New York Jets (+3) Over Miami Dolphins
There are worse picks you can make this week than the New York Jets. The Dolphins have been dreadful on the road this season, and a four-game home stand has them overvalued against New York. The Jets' defense sold a few pieces at the deadline, but they are still a competent unit that will give the Dolphins real problems.
Philadelphia Eagles (-3) Over Los Angeles Chargers
The edge goes to Philadelphia due to Justin Herbert’s hand injury, but it is still hard to have faith in this team. The Eagles' dominant defense has fallen apart at the seams, and their offense has fallen asleep in the first halves of games. Landon Dickerson is still out at left guard, and the Eagles really struggle when their best offensive lineman is unavailable. Will they find a way to win? Probably. But with a pair of games still left against Washington, there is no reason to go this far down the list in a difficult matchup for Philadelphia.
Jacksonville Jaguars (+1.5) Over Indianapolis Colts
No, thank you. Daniel Jones has a broken leg, but the Colts' run game just may get them a victory here. The slight lean goes to Jacksonville, but this is the type of game you want to stay away from.
Minnesota Vikings (-1.5) Over Washington Commanders
Do not take either of these teams in a survivor pool setting. The Washington defense is unreliable, while the Vikings offense couldn’t be worse. Marcus Mariota has looked serviceable, but a Brian Flores-led defense will tear him to shreds. Can we trust the Vikings quarterback carousel of bottom-tier players, either? No, we can’t.
