NBA Betting: Atlanta Hawks Season Long Handicapping 1/23/2026 vs. Phoenix Suns

Doc’s Sports is your home for free picks and predictions for every Atlanta Hawks weekday game this season. We have generated more than 30 units of profit so far this season, but the job is far from over, with more than 35 games left in the regular season.
On Wednesday night, the Atlanta Hawks secured a much-needed victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. Winning without Kristaps Porzingis and Zaccharie Risacher has not been easy for Atlanta, but they found their shooting form to pull off the small upset over Memphis. Jalen Johnson led the way with a 32-point, 15-rebound showing, while Dyson Daniels continues to develop as a playmaker with a team-high 8 assists. Corey Kispert struggled in his first start for the Hawks, posting a -11 rating in just 14 minutes, but the Hawks will have no complaints, as they still found a way to win.

From a betting perspective, we had a perfect 2-0 night with both winners coming in at plus money. We took a stab with the Hawks moneyline at +110, which cashed, and we also nailed over 6.5 rebounds at +100 for Dyson Daniels. That brings our season total to more than 30 units of profit, and we will look to add to that total tonight.
The Atlanta Hawks (21-25) return home to welcome the Phoenix Suns (27-17) to State Farm Arena. The Hawks' home and road splits continue to drift further apart, as the team has strangely struggled at home while they have been lights out on the road. Phoenix has vastly exceeded expectations this season with a league-leading 30-12-2 against the spread record as they find themselves right in the mix out West. The Suns enter this one as a slight road favorite over the Hawks, as they have a clean injury report and have won three straight over the 76ers, Nets, and Knicks. A trip to Atlanta wraps up their six-game road trip, so the Hawks will be hoping they can take advantage of some potentially sluggish legs tonight.
The Suns are led by Devin Booker, who continues to consistently produce on a nightly basis. His 25.3 PPG with 6.3 assists aren’t eye-popping numbers, but his consistency on offense is what sets him apart. Booker has scored 20+ in 16 of his last 18 games, but only eclipsed 30 points four times in that span. His reliable offense, combined with Phoenix’s 5th-ranked defense, has proven to be a winning formula for the Suns.
This season was expected to be a wash for the Suns, who traded away Kevin Durant to set themselves up for the future. Jalen Green’s early-season injury further dented their title aspirations, but he is back from injury, and the Suns are as dangerous as ever. Booker and Grayson Allen are two reliable scorers, Dillon Brooks and Green are both hard-nosed defenders, while the duo of Mark Williams and Royce O’Neale has done a great job at protecting the paint. Phoenix doesn’t have the household names you would think can compete in a stacked Western Conference, but they keep exceeding expectations with a stellar ATS record.
One unsung hero for the Suns has been Dillon Brooks. Brooks has a reputation as a pest, as he is the type of player everyone wants on their team but no one wants to play against. He has always been consistent on defense, but his offensive jump this season has turned him into a crucial member of this rotation. His 20.5 PPG and 44.1% field goal percentage are both career highs, which is a tough thing to do in his ninth season in the league.
In tonight’s matchup, the Hawks will need to keep an eye on Brooks if they hope to defend their home court. Daniels will be tasked with slowing down Booker, and that will leave Brooks against Nickeil Alexander-Walker for the majority of the night. Alexander-Walker came into the league as a 3-and-D player, but his role has grown into much more since joining the Hawks. His defensive play has fallen off slightly as a result, but he is still capable of matching Brooks’ intensity on the outside. There is a chance Brooks will be lined up against Jalen Johnson instead, but he is too undersized to slow down a player with Johnson’s strength and skill set.
Johnson has helped ease the pain of the Trae Young trade for the Hawks fanbase, and he is poised for another big night against the Suns. Phoenix doesn’t have a big and powerful forward to stay on Johnson, which should allow him to stuff the stat sheet. Williams and the other big men will have other matchups, and they don’t have the mobility needed to keep up with him on the perimeter. Brooks will spend some time on him, and while Green is lengthy, he isn’t strong enough to tussle in the paint with the real giants.
For the first bet of the night, we will take Jalen Johnson to go over 32.5 points+rebounds. Johnson has cleared this line in back-to-back games and has started to shift his role from playmaker to a physical scorer in recent weeks. This matchup should be no different, as I expect another dominant performance from the face of the franchise.
While Johnson will have a big game, it will not lead to a Hawks victory. Atlanta has been dreadful at home this year, while the Suns have strung together three straight road wins. Phoenix has a rest advantage, having not played since Tuesday, and I just don’t see the Hawks doing enough to cover, let alone win this game. Phoenix has covered the -3.5 point spread in 11 of their last 12 wins, with the only close game being against the mighty OKC Thunder. I have no fear of laying the points, as the Suns continue to print money on the spread while the Hawks' home struggles persist.
