NBA Betting Trends Analysis and Expert Handicapping 3/5/2026

With a month left in the NBA regular season, and March Madness just a few weeks out, now is the time for basketball bettors to lock in and really bring in the dough before Selection Sunday is here. Seeing that most teams are looking to finish the season strong and get themselves in the best playoff position possible, finding the best insights for your future picks is more important than ever.
While there may be some patterns you find on your own to help your bets cash in, I have four trends that are the answer to keeping your bankroll consistent for your future NBA picks. So, let's get right down to it.
Doc’s Sports offers NBA expert picks for every game on our NBA predictions page.
Suns Offense to Hurt Without Brooks
The Phoenix Suns have been turning heads this season, despite having a less All-Star filled rotation than other franchises in the Western Conference like the Denver Nuggets, Oklahoma City Thunder, and even the Houston Rockets. But things just got complicated, as Dillon Brooks will be out an additional 4-6 weeks after breaking his hand.
Going forward without its main defensive stopper and second-leading scorer, the Suns should be on your radar to fade against the spread until Brooks makes his return. Yes, Booker is still healthy and averaging a team-high 24.6 points per game, but let's be honest, this Suns team is nothing without Brooks, and it shows.
The Suns guard is having a career year, averaging 20 points per game on 44% shooting from the floor. Without him in the lineup, Phoenix's offense is going to take a massive dip, now needing to lean entirely on Booker and Allen, making it easier for opposing defenses to scheme against them. And beyond the offense, the Suns lose its scrappy defensive identity without its main on-ball defender on the floor.
Look, am I saying the Suns will suddenly drop games left and right? No. However, it will likely find itself finishing games with much closer margins, making the opposing team the better side to back for now.
Bet Wizards When Home Underdogs
This season has been a wash for the Washington Wizards, as has been the past several seasons, but that doesn't mean it is a team you can't make money off. That certainly is the case when Washington is playing at home and listed as an underdog.
Staring at a 16-45 record with little All-Star talent on the floor doesn't exactly sound reassuring for a team to bet on, but Washington has made it a point to not be underestimated when playing at home, now 14-14 as home underdogs, and that record is only going to keep improving.
How is that possible, considering Washington is surrendering one of the league's worst 123 points a night? Simple. Teams overlook the Wizards. Every team that has made a pitstop in Washington has looked at it as just a bump in the road, already thinking about the next game. And while that may be true, this isn't the case for a Washington team that comes with one of the youngest rosters in the league, looking to build and develop its young talent game by game.
On top of that, with Trae Young now jumping into the mix, Washington's offense should get a nice boost, especially from the perimeter, which has been one of its biggest weaknesses. So before you write off the Wizards at home, just know it has a habit of keeping home games closer than bettors think.
Take Heat ATS After Loss
Similar to the Phoenix Suns, the Miami Heat have found itself in a bit of a predicament despite having a relatively strong season. But here is the thing, when the Heat stumble and drop a game, it has made a habit of bouncing back against the spread, now sitting at 21-8 ATS after a loss. With a month left in the season and the Heat looking to secure a better playoff spot and avoid the play-in game altogether, that record is only going to keep climbing.
The Heat have been one of the more consistent teams in the NBA all season long, now 2nd in the league averaging 119.9 points a night, trailing only the Denver Nuggets. Defensively, it has been just as locked in, holding opponents to 45% from the field, good enough for 6th in the NBA.
Now, does the Heat have a true franchise guy? No, and any real NBA fan knows that. But what it does have is balance. Tyler Herro, Bam Adebayo, Norman Powell and Andrew Wiggins have all had their nights, and when these guys are on the floor together and in sync, this team can go toe to toe with just about anybody regardless of star power, defensive rankings or offensive firepower.
So yes, more losses are coming, that is just basketball. But when the Heat loses a game, make sure to add them to your betting slip, it’s practically money in the bank.
Go Under On Nets Conference Games
As a diehard Nets fan, it has been a rough ride this season, and I will leave it at that. But when it comes to making money, Brooklyn has actually been a goldmine, just not in the way most people think.
Taking the under in its Eastern Conference matchups has been as close to a sure thing as it gets this season, now hitting at a 63% rate compared to just 36% of its conference games going over. And frankly, it makes perfect sense. Brooklyn is in a full blown rebuild, running an offense that is averaging just 106 points a night, leaning on Michael Porter Jr. to jack up contested 3-pointers and bad shots, mixed in with a handful of young players still trying to figure out what the NBA is all about.
The Eastern Conference has been using the Nets as a stepping stone all season long, and that is not changing anytime soon. The Heat, the Knicks, the Cavaliers, the Celtics, these are teams with real scoring threats that can rack up the points in a hurry, and Brooklyn simply cannot keep up on that end.
And if that wasn't enough, the Nets made zero moves at the trade deadline and let go of Cam Thomas, its one true scoring weapon. This trend is only getting sweeter from here. So do yourself a favor, bet the under in Brooklyn's Eastern Conference games, and thank me later.
