The Oregon Ducks once again put together a strong run in the regular season, just to exit the playoffs before the championship with questions as to what happened. Fortunately for the Ducks, Dante Moore is back and ready to lead his team to the championship in what will be his final season in Eugene. The Ducks have a loaded offense around the veteran quarterback, and they should once again look like a legit championship-caliber team. The question now is whether or not Dan Lanning can take his team a step further and find success deeper in the playoffs. This Big Ten powerhouse is clamoring to establish themselves as a true national powerhouse.

Oregon Ducks Summary of Last Season

The Oregon Ducks put together a tremendous season a year ago, finishing with a 13-2 record and ending the year ranked fourth in the country. They dominated the four-game opening stretch against cupcake opponents, taking down Montana State, Oklahoma State, Northwestern, and Oregon State by a combined score of 203-37. They kept the winning streak alive by taking down Penn State 30-24 in overtime. Unfortunately, the dominance to open the season stalled as the Indiana Hoosiers came in and stole a win in Eugene by beating the Ducks 30-20. Following that loss, the Ducks finished the regular season winning their next six games. While they missed out on a chance to play in the Big Ten championship game, they did clinch a playoff spot. They dominated the first two rounds taking down James Madison and Texas Tech with a combined score of 74-34. However, they once again fell to the Hoosiers, this time in the CFP, as Indiana dominated in a 56-22 victory over Oregon.

Oregon finished second in the Big Ten in offense, averaging over 450 YPG, and 36.9 PPG. Dante Moore was the leader of the offense, finishing with 3,565 passing yards on a 71.8% CMP%, and he also recorded 30 passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns. The Ducks also had a solid ground game, with three running backs recording over 600 rushing yards. Noah Whittington led the group with 829 yards on 129 carries and six touchdowns. Jordon Davison led the Ducks ground game with 15 rushing touchdowns, while adding 667 yards on 113 carries. Dierre Hill Jr. rounded out the trio with 656 yards on 75 carries and five rushing touchdowns. Malik Benson was Moore’s favorite target as he tallied a team best 719 receiving yards with six receiving touchdowns. Kenyon Sadiq also had a very productive season out of the tight end spot as he led all receivers with eight receiving touchdowns, while finishing behind Benson with 560 receiving yards. Fellow tight end, Jamari Johnson, and wide receiver Jeremiah McClellan both recorded over 500 receiving yards and each tallied three receiving touchdowns.

The Ducks defense ranked seventh in the country in yards allowed, allowing just 273.7 YPG. Their 17.9 PPG allowed ranked just outside the Top 10, coming in at the 12th best mark in the country. Linebacker Bryce Boettcher led the team with 136 tackles while also recording a sack, an interception, two forced fumbles, and five pass deflections. Boettcher ranked sixth in the country in tackles, and second among Power Four players. Safety Dillon Thieneman finished second on the team with 92 tackles, while also recording a sack, five pass deflections, and two interceptions. Linebacker Teitum Tuioti led the way with 9.5 sacks while also tying Boettcher with two forced fumbles and five pass deflections.

Oregon Ducks Key Additions/Losses

Sadiq and Thieneman highlight significant losses for the Ducks as both players were drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft. Those two were joined by five more Ducks players that heard their names called at the draft including, interior offensive lineman Emmanuel Pregnon, cornerback Jadon Canady, Boettcher, wide receiver Malik Benson, and offensive tackle Alex Harkey. Joining the draftees are some high rated transfers. The Ducks are losing defensive lineman Tionne Gray (Notre Dame), Terrance Green (Alabama), Jericho Johnson (California), and Blake Purchase (Ole Miss), tight end Roger Saleapaga II (BYU), safety Kingston Lopa (California), and quarterback Bryson Beaver (Georgia).

Despite the productive departures, the Ducks rank 11th in the country in total returning production, 26th in returning offensive production, and 11th in returning defensive production. They did bring in the best safety in this year’s transfer portal in Koi Perich who is joining the Ducks after spending time with Big 10 foe Minnesota. They also added their quarterback of the future in Dylan Raiola who transfers in from Nebraska. Oregon also brought in notable transfer names like defensive lineman D’Antre Robinson (UNC), tight end Andrew Olesh (Penn State), wide receiver Iverson Hooks (UAB), and cornerback Aaron Scott Jr. (Ohio State).

2026 Oregon Ducks Schedule Breakdown

The nonconference slate for the Ducks is not overwhelming by any stretch of the imagination, and it should result in a 3-0 start for Oregon. They open the season with home games against Boise State and Portland State with a road trip to Oklahoma State sandwiched in between in Week Two. They start conference play with a tough road game against USC. This game should be really telling for both teams. Their conference home schedule includes UCLA and Nebraska in back-to-back weeks, Northwestern, Michigan, and an end of the year contest against Washington. Their road schedule consists of the trip to USC, Illinois, Ohio State, and Michigan State. Their games against Ohio State and Michigan are back-to-back to start November. This Ducks schedule is not easy.

2026 Oregon Ducks X-Factors/Big Questions

Can Oregon start fast despite all the talent lost to the NFL?

The Ducks lost their two best players on defense, and one of their biggest offensive playmakers to the NFL draft last season. While they have replenished with a new rank of strong talent, they still have to go out on the field and fill the holes with production. The Ducks need to take advantage of the opening third of their schedule in order to set themselves up for success against the stronger opponents that come later on. Perhaps the biggest factor for the Ducks is whether or not the new guys can step in and gain a ton of momentum for the team before they take on the likes of USC, Ohio State, and Michigan.

Can Dan Lanning take the next step?

This is another big question surrounding the Oregon football program. The Ducks have been one of the best teams throughout the regular season in recent memory. They do not lose the trap games, and they compete with the best of them. However, they have yet to bring home a national championship under Lanning. Lanning is one of the best coaches, in one of the best jobs, in America. He and his staff need to put it all together this year and end the championship drought that has plagued his tenure while at Oregon.

2026 Oregon Ducks Predictions:

The Ducks are tied with the Texas Longhorns with the third best odds to win the National Championship this season, behind Ohio State and Notre Dame. While they are trying to find their way over the hump, they still have to battle it out with Ohio State and USC in the regular season, both on the road, and they could still end up meeting Indiana in the conference championship. While Oregon has been one of the best regular season teams, I could see them end up with two losses. USC and Ohio State on the road are going to be tough games in tough environments. You could consider the USC game more of a toss up than a loss initially, but that is their first true test of this season, and a slip up there could be catastrophic for any over bets on the win total. I am staying away from all things Oregon for this year, with the exception of Moore bringing home the Heisman at +800. There is too much value there to not throw some couch change on it.
