Friday NBA Betting Report: Schedule Handicapping Breakdown
by Aaron Smith - 1/27/2012
We’re now a month into this shortened NBA season and there have been plenty of interesting stories throughout the league. Offenses have been kept in check, and the ‘under’ has hit nearly 57 percent of the time through the first 195 games of the year. The schedule has been one of the biggest stories of the season, and it will continue to be thanks to the interesting scheduling quirks of a condensed season.
NBA Picks for Thursday TNT: Celtics at Magic Odds and Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 1/25/2012
We had a good result siding with a Florida NBA team a week ago as the Miami Heat covered in last Thursday’s TNT opener against the L.A. Lakers. So we’ll again go with the opening game this week when Boston visits Orlando in a potential playoff preview. In a scheduling quirk, it’s the second game in a row for the Celtics against the Magic, but this can’t be considered a true home-and-home because Orlando had a matchup at Indiana on Tuesday sandwiched in between this rematch.

There is always a wealth of information and statistics literally at your fingertips when it comes to handicapping matchups in the NBA, making it extremely easy to bog yourself down with every possible measure known to mankind. Sometimes it is the simple things in this game that can provide the most important insight to correctly predicting the actual outcome of a game.
NBA Handicapping: Back-to-Back-to-Back Betting Trends for Three Games in Three
by David Schwab - 1/24/2012
If you go back and look at a traditional 82-game NBA regular season schedule from previous seasons, you will find that occasionally teams would get stuck with playing a game on three consecutive nights. When you take a look at this season’s abbreviated 66-game schedule you will find that every team has to play back-to-back-to-back games at least once this season and a few teams are strapped with two series of three games in three nights this year.
Friday NBA Betting Report: Schedule Handicapping Breakdown
by Aaron Smith - 1/20/2012
In the months before the season, the average bettor was bemoaning the fact that the NBA had been on lockout for so long. It certainly was no fun thinking about the possibility of a year without the NBA, but in the end the tightened schedule could benefit the wise bettor. This is one of those cases where something good could come from what looked like a bad situation.
NBA Handicapping: Lakers Outlook for NBA Championship
by T.O. Whenham - 1/19/2012
Coming into this NBA season there was all sorts of talk about the Lakers. In fact, it was the biggest topic of discussion. They had had a lousy offseason, they had lost their legendary coach, and there was a belief among many that they were no longer the best team in the Staples Center, never mind the Western Conference. L.A. has been the most public of teams for years, but was that about to end?
NBA Picks for Thursday TNT: Lakers at Heat Odds and Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 1/18/2012
Certainly one of the more anticipated Thursday NBA on TNT games of the season comes this week when the Miami Heat host the Los Angeles Lakers. It’s LeBron vs. Kobe. The favorite to win the NBA title (Heat at 7/4) vs. the No. 4 favorite (Lakers at 15/2 – L.A. was No. 2 to start season but have slipped behind the Bulls and Thunder).
NBA Handicapping: Weekly Look at Key Betting Statistics

When it comes to wagering on the NBA, today’s advances in technology can deliver a wealth of statistics and information with just a few simple clicks on a mobile device. However, sometimes it is the simple things that can provide the most important insight to help handicap the outcome of a particular matchup.
NBA Handicapping: Can Sixers Keep Exceeding Bookie Expectations?
by T.O. Whenham - 1/18/2012
If I were to ask you to guess which team would be second in the standings of the Eastern Conference of the NBA in the middle of January, how many guesses would have you have needed before you picked the 76ers? If it is anything less than six or seven then you are either hopelessly optimistic or you have been watching a lot of Sixers basketball lately.
NBA Handicapping: Best and Worst Teams Against the Spread
by T.O. Whenham - 1/18/2012
It’s hard to believe because it feels like the season only just began, but thanks to the work stoppage in the NBA we are already nearly a quarter of the way into the season. That means it is a good time to look at the teams that are standing out so far as betting stars, and those that have been very unkind for bettors:
NBA Betting and Handicapping: Scouting The Week Ahead
by Alan Matthews - 1/17/2012
Most basketball experts predicted that injuries would play a bigger role than normal during this NBA regular season with the lockout-condensed 66-game schedule resulting in tons of back-to-backs for each team. Those experts appear to be right, and the injury bug seems to be hitting the guards the hardest -- although the Atlanta Hawks were devastated by a season-ending injury to big man Al Horford and Memphis hugely misses power forward Zach Randolph.
NBA Handicapping: Teams with Future Betting Value
by T.O. Whenham - 1/13/2012
We’re about 10 games into the NBA season already. Thanks to the compacted schedule it seems like the season is just flying by. When I look at the standings so far what stands out most is that there are some teams that have records that just don’t reflect the talent they have on the court. From a betting perspective these teams are a dream.
NBA Handicapping: the Washington Wizards Poor Start
by T.O. Whenham - 1/13/2012
The Washington Wizards are terrible. Really, really terrible. They were the last winless team in the league until they beat the hapless Raptors in their ninth game of the season. They celebrated their much-needed success by setting the franchise record for scoring futility with a 64-point showing in a loss to the Bulls next time out to drop to 1-9.
Friday NBA Betting Report: Schedule Handicapping Breakdown
by Aaron Smith - 1/13/2012
We are now into Week 3 of the NBA season. It’s already been very evident that it is far from business as usual this year. The abbreviated season has caused all sorts of odd scheduling spots. While this might not be a good thing for the teams or the league as a whole, the average bettor should definitely use these scheduling changes to find good value.
NBA Handicapping: Weekly Look at Key Betting Statistics
by David Schwab - 1/12/2012
Statistics are a natural starting point when it comes to handicapping a matchup in the NBA. Today’s advances in technology can provide a wealth of information that covers every possible aspect of the sport, but sometimes it is the simple things that can provide the most important insight to predicting the outcome of a particular game.
NBA Picks for Thursday TNT: Magic at Warriors Odds and Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 1/11/2012
Not the greatest doubleheader on TNT this Thursday night: New York Knicks at Memphis Grizzlies and Orlando Magic at Golden State Warriors. But at least I can preview a TNT game that doesn’t involve the Lakers for the first time (they will be back in next Thursday’s preview against the Heat).
NBA Betting and Handicapping: Scouting The Week Ahead
by Alan Matthews - 1/9/2012
Welcome to the inaugural NBA week ahead preview for betting and NBA handicapping – I will try and deliver a few nuggets that will help bettors for the next seven days’ upcoming games. And as usual, check back later this week for my weekly preview of the game of the night on TNT’s Thursday doubleheader.
Friday NBA Betting Report: Schedule Handicapping Breakdown
by Aaron Smith - 1/6/2012
The NBA season is underway, but this season won’t be anything like a normal season in the league. The shortened length of the season has created all sorts of strange scheduling spots. The average fan might not think too much about this kind of thing, but an avid NBA handicapper should pay close attention to these modifications. Doc’s Sports is all about helping sports bettors find the edge on the books, and that will be the goal of this weekly NBA betting report.
NBA Picks for TNT Thursday: Lakers at Blazers Odds and Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 1/4/2012
One problem with this lockout-condensed 66-game NBA schedule is the amount of back-to-back games that teams are playing. It’s great if you are a fan but a bit of a pain as a gaming writer because I aim to provide you these types of preview stories well in advance.
Friday NBA Betting Report: Schedule Handicapping Breakdown

There were many questions as to whether there would be an NBA season at all this year, but the season is finally here. However, it won’t be business as usual for the league this year. The shortened length of the season will cause numerous difficult scheduling situations throughout the year.
