Take First 5 Innings: ‘Under’ 4.5 Philadelphia at Washington (7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 15)

He still has a 2.68 ERA this season and a 2.60 combined ERA over the past two years and has shutdown stuff. Mackenzie Gore is one of the most underrated starters in the league. He has blown up in his last two home outings, allowing 16 runs in five innings over two starts. Not great! But he is too good to keep getting shelled and I think he will be sharp here. Gore has only allowed three runs in 12 innings against the Phillies this season and I will back him here. We have the Detroit Tigers headed to Minnesota to face the Twins Friday night. The Detroit Tigers still hold first place in the AL Central coming into this game. While the Twins are in 4th in the division. This game is a divisional matchup between the Tigers and the Twins, with the Tigers holding a 20-11 record in divisional play this season. While the Twins come in 16-18 this season against divisional opponents. For the Tigers, they will have veteran Charlie Morton on the mound with a 7-120 record on the season. Coming off a loss in his last outing to the LA Angels, going only 4.1 innings, pitching 7 hits and 6 earned runs. He will be matched up with the Minnesota Twins' Jose Urena. Doesn’t have a win or loss on the season with 25 innings of work with an ERA sitting just under 5 at a 4.97 ERA. His last start came against the Royals, where he went 3 innings, 3 hits, and 1 earned run. While the Twins do play better at home than on the road, with a home record of 32-25 on the season. They’re still ranked 21st in runs per game, averaging 4.2 runs per game. This Detroit Tigers offense is due for a breakout. Top 10 offense in MLB, will get to Jose in this matchup here on the road on Friday. Take the Tigers on the run line, as I expect Charlie Morton to have a bounce-back game against a struggling Minnesota lineup. We all know that the 'Over' in NFL Preseason Week 1 went 14-2 and I see games being played this weekend doing the same. What a shock that the Baltimore Ravens covered last week but they also scored 24 points and that was running the ball successfully. The Dallas Cowboys lost on the road last Saturday 31-21 and I see more success from Cowboys rookie QB Joe Milton III. Shocked that this total hasn't moved closer to 40 and I see the Cowboys pitting up points early against the Baltimore Ravens defense. Take ‘Draw’ (+270) San Jose at San Diego (7 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 17)

The San Jose Earthquakes are much improved this season, and they are in the hunt for a playoff spot. San Diego is an expansion side, and they have taken the MLS by storm, as they lead the Western Conference and are in the running for the Supporters Shield, awarded to the MLS side with the most points at the end of the regular season. This is a tough match for both sides and what will for sure be a regional rivalry in coming years. We expect a strong defensive showing from both sides. We think both sides would be happy with a point here, and that seems like the most likely result. San Diego is the better side, but they don’t play as well on the road, and San Jose is strong at home. This line for the draw really stood out to us when the lines came out this week, and we could see a 1-1 result here when the whistle blows. We see an even matchup here. NFL Futures Prediction From Jason Sharpe:

Take Atlanta Falcons 'Over' 7.5 Wins (-145)

Most forget the Atlanta Falcons started off the 2024 season with a 6-3 record in their first 9 games but stumbled down the stretch and finished the year 8-9 overall. The Falcons did lose four games in the 2nd half of the season by 4 points or less and the last two games of the year in overtime. One big reason for their bad play down the stretch was they were playing with an injured Kirk Cousins at quarterback and that shouldn't be an issue this year as Michael Penix is the guy behind center this year and that should mean an improved Falcons offense. Atlanta also has a top 10 easiest schedule this year plus play in arguably the worst division in the NFL as well. Play Atlanta 'over' their season win total. NFL Futures Prediction From Strike Point Sports:

Take Houston Texans ‘Over’ 9.5 Wins (+100)

The Houston Texans were an average football team and won 10 games last year. Their biggest issue was their offensive line, and yes, it’s still not great but it will be improved. The Texans offense will be more efficient and their defense will make the necessary adjustments to be even better. Houston should once again be the best team in the AFC South so that gives them a 4-2 record, at worst there. The NFC and AFC West are the cross overs for the South this season and although they have some good teams that isn’t a daunting task. At worst I see that as a 5-3 record. This would give Houston 9 wins. The Texans would need to find one more win out of Buffalo, Baltimore, and Tampa Bay. This is a tough task but at worst I like them to get a win here getting Houston to 10 wins. The games that will have the biggest impact (Buffalo, San Francisco, and Denver, are all in Houston, which is huge for this seasons win total. Give me the Texans at OVER 9.5.
