NFL Survivor Pool Picks and Advice: Week 8
If you’ve made it to Week 8 of your Survivor Pool, congratulations. You’ve survived perhaps one of the trickiest eight weeks I can remember, and you are doing so against some good competition, because most of the pools joined were busted in Week 5. This week we have some excellent choices to choose from – that is of course if you haven’t already used the top guns like Green Bay or Kansas City. If you have, I have a few teams that I really like this week that would make great options.
For those of you who are reading this and are unsure what a survivor pool is, or are new to the survivor pool world, give this piece a quick read as it’ll break down what it is and offer up a few strategies on how to navigate the season.
As far as last week’s selections went, we hit six of our top eight selections (11 overall), with the Cowboys and Bears really stinking up the joint. These survivor plays ranked from strongest to weakest for Week 8 of the National Football League Season. The team I list first is my selection.
Green Bay Packers over Minnesota Vikings: The Packers are a really good football team. The Vikings are a really bad football team. I’ll take Aaron Rodgers over Kirk Cousins any day of the week and twice at Lambeau Field. The Packers will win this one by double digits as Rodgers continues his MVP-caliber campaign.
Kansas City Chiefs over New York Jets: As I’ve been saying the entire season so far: any bet against the Jets is a good bet. The Chiefs should win this game with ease. And if you haven’t used up KC yet this season, you are sitting pretty to advance to the next week.
New Orleans Saints over Chicago Bears: The Bears stink. They should be at best 2-5, but here they are at 5-2. The Saints are 4-2 and have won three straight games, and we see them making it four straight on the strength of Brees and Kamara.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers over New York Giants: The Bucs are starting to put it all together and starting to resemble a really good offense. Brady has command of the offense. And with plenty of weapons to go to, he should have no problem carving up a terrible Giants defense. We see Tampa hitting 30+ once again with no response from the Giants.
Philadelphia Eagles over Dallas Cowboys: The Eagles aren’t exactly the best team in the league, but the Cowboys are certainly the worst. Wentz will be better than anyone the Cowboys put under center, and the Eagles will move closer (by default) to winning the division.
Los Angeles Rams over Miami Dolphins: The Rams did just enough to get by a weak Bears squad on Monday. They now get to take on a below-average team in the Dolphins, with a rookie QB starting under center. The Rams will do enough to get the win and get them back on track in the race for the postseason.
Tennessee Titans over Cincinnati Bengals: The Titans did well last week to almost come back from a 27-7 deficit against the Steelers only to fall short on a missed FG to force OT. The Bengals pooped themselves in the last minute against the Browns, and we just see the Titans offense being too much for the terrible Bengals defense to handle.
Buffalo Bills over New England Patriots: The Patriots are in a world of hurt right now. And it doesn’t look like there is a solution to their problems. The Bills struggled with the Jets, but a win is a win, and we believe this is a statement game for Buffalo and they’ll win it on the strength of their offense.
Pittsburgh Steelers over Baltimore Ravens: This is going to be a solid game to watch but probably a terrible game to bet on. The spread typically comes into play for this matchup. And with it set at -3.5, it’s a stay-away game unless you like the underdog. We think the Steelers defense is better than the Ravens, and they’ll be able to contain the Ravens’ attack enough to get the win.
Los Angeles Chargers over Denver Broncos: The Chargers beat a team they were supposed to last week, the Jags, while the Broncos got obliterated by the Chiefs. The Chargers are the better team with the more potent offense. We’ll take LAC here to get the win.
Carolina Panthers over Atlanta Falcons: The Panthers may have Christian McCaffrey back for this game, and that ultimately gives them the best player on the field. The Falcons found yet another way to lose last week courtesy of Todd Gurley. So, how could you trust them to win any game at this point? Give me Carolina in this terrible Thursday night game.
Detroit Lions over Indianapolis Colts: The last time we saw the Colts, they were giving up 27 points to the Bengals and following behind 21-0. The defense has certainly regressed this season compared to last, and we like what the Lions have been doing this season. They’ve won two straight, and this is a winnable game for them to put themselves back into the hunt for a wild-card spot.
Cleveland Browns over Las Vegas Raiders: The Browns won a thriller last week against the Bengals, while the Raiders got blown out. I’ll take the Browns at home, despite being without OBJ, who is out for the year with an ACL injury. The Raiders simply can’t stop anyone, and I think Baker Mayfield can outplay Derek Carr.
San Francisco 49ers over Seattle Seahawks: This game is going to be the best game of the week, yet I have no idea which way it’s going to go. Both teams have solid offenses, but the Niners have the better defense. I hate betting against Russell Wilson at home, so this game is a complete tossup for me. I’ll take my chances with the Niners as plus-money dogs.
