NFL Survivor Pool Picks Week 6: Advice and Predictions

There are few feats more impressive than surviving all 18 weeks of the NFL season, as it takes careful planning, strategy, and a little bit of luck. All year long, Doc’s Sports will be ranking each matchup on any given week to help get you a little bit closer to the crown. Last week, we took the Cincinnati Bengals over the Miami Dolphins for a relatively sweat-free win. We have faded the Dolphins in four of the five weeks so far, but will have to change up our strategy this week with Miami on a bye. Week 5 featured a massive upset as the Cowboys fell to the Buccaneers as -8.5 point favorites, eliminating roughly 35% of entries. We correctly dropped the Cowboys down the confidence list, so you should be safe even if you strayed away from Cincinnati. This is the stretch of the season where survivor starts to get interesting, so let's dive right into the Week 6 survivor pool picks ranked from most to least confident.
Doc’s Sports offers NFL expert picks for every game on our NFL predictions page.
Los Angeles Rams (-12.5) Over Arizona Cardinals
The Los Angeles Rams are the only double digit favorite this week, and they absolutely deserve this line. The Rams would have beaten the Bills on Monday night were it not for two missed kicks, including one in overtime, and they will get right back on track here. This offense moved the ball incredibly well, and they now come up against a very leaky Cardinals defense. From a strategy point of view, there are arguments to be made that we should save the Rams, but with so many entries already eliminated at this stage of the season, we might as well take the team that gives us the best chance of advancing one more week. Their final seven games of the year are all against top-end teams, making this a perfectly acceptable time to burn the preseason Super Bowl favorites before it is too late.
Buffalo Bills (-5.5) Over Las Vegas Raiders
Josh Allen is inevitable, and he will pick apart a Raiders team that is running out of gas. The 3-0 start for Las Vegas was always a mirage, and now they will drop to .500 when the Bills annihilate them in Week 6. Buffalo isn’t as big a favorite as some of the other teams this week, but in terms of pure moneyline potential, which is all we care about, they have the second-best chance to prevail. Their defense has been able to take away explosive plays over the top, and Las Vegas doesn’t have the patience to methodically work the ball down the field. The Bills are a solid option this week, but I would hold off on using them if you haven’t already as there are even softer home games down the stretch.
San Francisco 49ers (-7.5) Over Washington Commanders
The Commanders have one win this season and it came against the reigning Super Bowl champions. Weird. It is hard to be too confident on what we will get out of the Commanders any given week, but an upset of this magnitude would be quite the shock. San Francisco is one of three undefeated teams, they are also coming off a win in Seattle, and are the surprisingly healthier team. We already used them against Miami in Week 2, and there really aren’t many better times to pull the trigger.
Kansas City Chiefs (-8.5) Over Los Angeles Chargers
The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off their bye, and host the 0-5 Chargers in a crucial AFC West clash. This is probably the last chance for Los Angeles to even potentially save their season, but it will not come against their division rivals. The Chiefs have been playing excellent football on both sides, and now that they have a run game with Kenneth Walker III, it is even harder to imagine this offense stumbling. The Chiefs do host the Jets and Cardinals in the next five weeks, making them a good one to hold on to, but are still a solid option in Week 6.
Indianapolis Colts (-6.5) Over Tennessee Titans
The Titans are nearly on the same level as the Dolphins for being an easy fade in survivor pools, and the Colts will be a popular pick this week. However, Indianapolis only has two wins this year, and they came against the 1-4 Texans and the 1-3-1 Commanders, who had a third-string quarterback. The Colts defense is not the unit it once was, which has them slightly further down the list, but it is still the Titans we are talking about. The Tennessee offense is last in both points and yards this year, as it looks like this is the beginning of the end for Cam Ward as a starter.
Jacksonville Jaguars (-2.5) Over Houston Texans
This is a small spread but a confident pick. The Jaguars will be our official contrarian pick of the week if you want to sit back and root for upsets. Jacksonville has looked fantastic this year and are in their home away from home taking on a Texans side that just got their first win of the year. Houston’s offense came to life against Tennessee, not that that’s too impressive, and they will slink back down to reality against Jacksonville. The Jaguars are playing complementary football with Trevor Lawrence in the MVP conversation, and this is a big game to extend their lead at the top of the AFC South.
New England Patriots (-7.5) Over New York Jets
Divisional matchups always scare me, especially against a good defense, but I have seen enough from Drake Maye to trust him with our survivor pool life. The Patriots offense has bounced back after a slow start, and it will only take a touchdown or two to pull away from the Jets. While this is a pick near the top of the list, I would still hold off with two games against the lowly Dolphins still upcoming for New England.
Baltimore Ravens (-5.5) Over Cleveland Browns
Lamar Jackson is expected to be back for Baltimore and the Ravens are looking like a more complete roster than they ever have. Their defense is solid, their offensive line is getting healthier, and a lackluster Browns offense will be able to do little to keep pace. It was a fun start for Cleveland, but a division loss sends them back down to reality. Baltimore really only has one more spot against the Chargers in a few weeks where we would want to use them, so if you haven’t already, now is a good time.
New York Giants (+1.5) Over New Orleans Saints
The Giants are an underdog, but it may be time to use them while we still can. They only have one loss through the first five weeks, but there is no guarantee Jameis Winston will be able to keep this up all year. A tough upcoming schedule means New York will not be an option for the next month or two, with one home game against the Browns in Week 15 the only thing that jumps out. On the field, the Saints have looked like a complete disaster with no run game which is putting too much on the shoulders of Tyler Shough. The Giants are high on this list for a reason, but we are more concerned with surviving another week as most other entries have already been bounced.
Pittsburgh Steelers (-2.5) Over Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Pittsburgh keeps finding ways to win games, and this isn’t a bad pick if you want to stay away from the heavy favorites. The Buccaneers offense put up 24 points against Dallas with Jalon Daniels at the helm, but this is a much tougher defensive matchup. Pittsburgh’s defense will turn back the clock with a strong showing, while Aaron Rodgers does just enough to get them over the line. A Week 17 tilt with the Titans is the only other time I would consider pulling the trigger with Pittsburgh, making this a solid pick with the future in mind.
Seattle Seahawks (-2.5) Over Denver Broncos
The Seahawks offer a bit of value on the road against Denver with Patrick Surtain leading the list of notable defensive absences, but we will have much better opportunities to use the defending champions this year.
Philadelphia Eagles (+1.5) Over Carolina Panthers
The Eagles found a new way to blow the game against Jacksonville last week, but I will still give them the slight edge over Carolina. The Panthers defense is banged up, and even a bye week won’t give them enough time to heal up for this matchup. This is far from the most confident pick of the week, especially with Philadelphia flying back from London, but there are worse things you can do.
Green Bay Packers (-1.5) Over Dallas Cowboys
This is a classic Sunday Night Football matchup, but isn’t very interesting for survivor pools. The Cowboys offense is among the best in the league, while their defense is a joke. There will be better spots to use both of these teams, so look further up the list for Week 6.
Chicago Bears (-1.5) Over Atlanta Falcons
There are questions at quarterback for both of these teams, and both look like Super Bowl contenders one week and complete disasters the next. That level of inconsistency coupled with this short spread makes this one to just stay away from.
