The Top Contenders
Alabama Crimson Tide
DraftKings, BetMGM and Caesars Sportsbook made Alabama the college football favorite. DraftKings has the odds at +175, and Caesars (+180) and BetMGM (+190) agree. The Crimson Tide are that good from the starting quarterback to the ball boy.
The only drawback is Alabama’s schedule. Early in the year, the Tide have a stop at home in a matchup with Texas A&M after the road game in Arkansas. The beginning of the November is a trip down to LSU. Late in that month, Auburn comes calling in a home game. Early in December, the matchup is Georgia vs. Alabama.
Ohio State Buckeyes
Ohio State makes the No. 2 consensus. DraftKings has a +300 odds, followed by Caesars (+325) and BetMGM (+350). The Buckeyes are loaded to the tee with offensive and defensive talent. The line strength (offensive and defensive) would be their No. 1 attribute.
The Sept. 5 matchup against Notre Dame will be the highlight for opening weekend. Michigan State will welcome in October, and the regular season ends Nov. 26 against Michigan. The actual season possibly ends in the championship between Ohio State and Alabama.
The Ones to Watch
Texas A&M Aggies
The fly in the ointment for Alabama and Ohio State is the Texas A&M Aggies. BetMGM has the lower +2000 odds. DraftKings and Caesars have the odds a bit higher at +2500.
Much as been said about the Aggies. However, will they “walk the walk” when given the test against Alabam? Texas A&M has a best odds around given the betting value.
The Pac-12’s USC is a value pick given the odds from +2000 (BetMGM) to +2500 (DraftKings). Caesar has the odds at +2200.
Lincoln Riley is the new coach of the team, and Caleb Williams, Jordan Addison and Travis Dye are new players. The Trojans are set up to be first in the Pac-12. They are getting early nods to be thought of as national powers.
Oklahoma runs the gambit with tracking odds to win the big game. BetMGM has the low end at +3500, and Caesars has the odds set higher at +5000. Settling the difference, DraftKings has the odds listed at +4000.
The Sooners have a new coach, Brent Venables. However, Oklahoma has the same old schedule. Saturdays in early October and early November could possibly elevate this team up to national standards.
