Thursday Night Football Picks: Seattle Seahawks vs Arizona Cardinals

After one of the wildest weeks in recent NFL history, we don't have time to wallow around in it and cry. We gotta pick up our marbles/losing tickets off the floor and move on to the next one.
That is, if you had a bunch of losing tickets. We actually avoided all the blocked field goals and late 4th-quarter shenanigans that had most bettors crying into their pillows. We took a slightly different approach to the primetime games last week and played three different team totals.
The Bills and Lions comfortably went over their totals, while the New York Giants fell quite short. I don't expect to go 3-0 again this week, but we can try!
Any way you cut it, though, the Thursday Night Football game between the Seattle Seahawks and the Arizona Cardinals is not an easy one to predict. As you see in a moment when you scroll down, the sportsbooks aren’t giving us much help either with the point spread at a pick’em now.
I don't think many people predicted the NFC West would be the best division in the NFL at this point. With a total of nine wins, this division outshines the rest. The next best is the NFC North, which has seven victories.
Both Seattle and Arizona come into this Week 4 Thursday Night Football matchup at 2-1, which isn’t entirely surprising until you realize they’ve both mostly done it with defense. Each defense ranks inside the top 5 in the league in points allowed per game.
As you might expect, the point total is low for this game, given that it features two solid defenses. However, we also have to consider that this game is on a short week, which usually makes it harder for offenses to click as they would with a full week's preparation.

Seattle Seahawks (pk) at Arizona Cardinals (pk)
We opened up around (-2.5) for the home Cardinals in this division matchup. That seems about right for a couple of winning teams that know each other well and play defensively sound football.
The market said not so fast, however, as money has poured in on the Seahawks in this Thursday night spot. In fact, 80% of both the tickets and the money have come in on the Seahawks. We must remember, though, that’s what got us to this point. The majority of the money and tickets were for Seattle when they were plus money.
Point Total: 43.5
Common sense says this is a stone-cold under. Unfortunately, common sense doesn't pay the bills. You have two highly ranked defenses, and each side is quite familiar with the other. We have the short week as well. However, both teams feature potentially explosive passing games with capable quarterbacks and talented wide receivers.
Team totals have been good to us, but I'm not sure about this game.
Moneyline Odds
Seahawks: -110
Cardinals: -110

Seattle Seahawks at Arizona Cardinals Betting Analysis
We must address the injury wire. The Cardinals' productive, consistent running back James Conner will undergo foot surgery that will sideline him for the remainder of the regular season. Typically, we don't like to rate running back losses that highly
Second-year man Trey Benson, from Florida State, has already moved into the RB1 slot, and looking at his average yards per carry for the year, he isn't doing that badly.
A closer inspection, though, reveals that a few long runs pad his 6.0 yards-per-carry average. Take away his three longest runs of the season, and Benson has 18 rushes for 31 yards.
These two teams have not one, but two common opponents so far, and they both lost to San Francisco, albeit Seattle lost to a healthy, Purdy-led Niners team in Week 1. Arizona only beat the Saints by one score, while Seattle broke some souls on Sunday.
The Cardinals have been winning the turnover battle on the season, while the Seahawks have given as much as they’ve taken. This lends itself to the Cardinals being the slightly luckier team to start the season.
As both teams match up well in the running games and defenses, it's the passing attack of the Seahawks that ranks top 5 in the league, while Arizona struggles to throw the ball for 150 yards a game.
I’ll take the better team on the short week.
