Thursday Night Football Picks: Seattle Seahawks vs Denver Broncos Best Bets

This Thursday night we have a matchup against two of the toughest teams in the NFL as the 3-2 Denver Broncos play host to the 3-2, defending champs, Seattle Seahawks. Both teams are looking to continue climbing over the .500 mark and push themselves in a more favorable position. Seattle is coming to town after making a lot of costly errors against the San Francisco 49ers. Denver on the other hand is coming off a huge divisional win over the Los Angeles Chargers. The biggest storyline for the Seahawks heading into this Thursday Night matchup is whether or not they can steady the turnovers. They turned the ball over four times in their loss to the 49ers which really suppressed any chance of closing out what was a close game. As for the Broncos, they need to overcome some injuries in the secondary and continue forcing turnovers and shutting down the opposition.

Thursday Night Football Seattle Seahawks Game Preview
The Seattle Seahawks are coming off a very disappointing showing last weekend. The defending Super Bowl Champs have not looked as stout as they did last winter. Sam Darnold threw two interceptions, and the Seahawks fumbled the ball away twice. Neither team’s offense performed well at all, both tallying less than 300 total yards, but the Seahawks would have won this game if it wasn’t for the turnovers. Seattle converted just three of their 12 third downs in this one and were sacked five times. Jaxon Smith-Njigba did his thing like he always does, bringing in five catches and finishing with 102 yards and a touchdown. However, he was hurt and his status is up in the air for this game. Overall, Seattle has showcased the best defense in the league. They have held opponents to just 251.2 YPG, and their secondary has allowed just 150.8 passing YPG.
Ahead of this Thursday game, the Seahawks are faced with a lengthy injury list. Not only is Smith-Njigba questionable, but the team also has some depth concerns on the defensive side of the ball. As mentioned, the biggest thing for Seattle to do, especially with the injuries, is limit turnovers. After turning the ball over four times last week, Seattle has now given away the sixth most turnovers. If Smith-Njigba is ready to go, the Darnold needs to take advantage of a, potentially, weaker Denver secondary thanks to their injuries. If the Seahawks can clean up the little things, they should once again rise to the top of the league standings.

Thursday Night Football Denver Broncos Game Preview
The Denver Broncos needed a 13-point 4th quarter in order to secure the win against the winless Chargers. Both offenses in this game struggled to find their footing, but the Broncos were outgained, despite the win. Denver was held to just 224 yards total Bo Nix struggled mightily in this game has he completed just 16 of his 27 passes, for just 123 passing yards and a touchdown. The run game did bail out the struggling pass attack, but it also helped that the Chargers turned the ball over three times and totaled over 90 penalty yards. The defense does deserve a lot of credit here as well as they held the Chargers to just 2.8 yards per pass, and just 237 yards of offense. Brandon Jones hauled in an interception, and Nik Bonitto recorded two sacks and three TFLs. Overall, the Broncos have struggled mightily on offense, ranking 30th in YPG, and the defense ranks in the middle of the league allowing 347.4 YPG.
After seeing Darnold and the Seahawks turn the ball over four times, the Broncos need to devise a defensive game plan that involves rushing Darnold and making him uncomfortable early and often. If the Denver pass rush can disrupt Darnold, expect the Broncos to record a couple of key turnovers that could swing the momentum of the game. Offensively, they need to focus on establishing the run game in order to let Nix settle into this game. Seattle has the best secondary in the league; Nix will need to have the ground game going in order to open up the offense some more. It also would help if they could contain Smith-Njigba, but injuries in the secondary might make that task even more difficult.
Denver Broncos 3 Keys to Victory
- Force Turnovers
- Contain Jaxon Smith-Njigba
- Establish the Ground Game
Denver Broncos Injuries
CB Pat Surtain II – Doubtful
CB Riley Moss – Questionable

Thursday Night Football Game Predictions
I do not see Denver winning this one, even on their home turf. While that definitely does aid them in this game, the Seahawks matchup really well here. They have the toughest secondary in the league, and they will force Nix into tight windows where a mistake becomes inevitable. Darnold will need to limit his mistakes, and win the turnover battle, but the Seahawks just have more to bring in this game. Smith-Njigba’s health is an important storyline to follow as the week progresses, but even if he is limited, the impact will be felt, and Seattle should find the win column again this week.
My Pick: Seattle Seahawks, -2.5 / Under 40.5
