After reclaiming the SEC Championship and returning to the playoffs with a favorable seed, Georgia ensured that the national powerhouse window wasn’t closed. However, their playoff time was short lived after Trinidad Chambliss and the Ole Miss Rebels took them out. Fortunately for the Bulldogs, they once again bring a roster full of future NFL talent into the new season. The expectations of another conference championship and deep playoff run have not changed. Kirby Smart and his staff will depend on Gunner Stockton taking a big step forward this season, elevating the Georgia offense. The question around this program is not if they can make another playoff appearance, it’s whether or not they can win those playoff games.

Georgia Bulldogs Summary of Last Season

Last season, the Georgia Bulldogs were one of the most dominant teams throughout the regular season. They posted an 11-1 record, taking down teams like Tennessee, Ole Miss, Texas, and Georgia Tech. Their one loss was at home against Alabama, but Georgia rebounded by winning their next nine games including the SEC Championship game, where they took down the Crimson Tide in the rematch. Unfortunately, in another rematch, this time against Ole Miss, Georgia would not be able to take advantage of their first-round bye, and they would go on to lose against the Rebels 39-34 ending their season. They would finish with a 12-2 record, a 7-1 SEC record, and they were ranked sixth in the AP Poll.

The Georgia offense ranked seventh in the SEC averaging just over 400 YPG. They averaged over 180 of those yards on the ground, and the Bulldogs managed to average 32.1 PPG. Gunner Stockton completed nearly 70% of his passes from a year ago, totaling 2,894 passing yards, 24 touchdowns, and just five interceptions. He added another 462 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns. Nate Frazier was the top back for the Georgia ground game. He finished with 947 rushing yards on 173 carries, and he finished with six rushing touchdowns. Chauncey Bowens also recorded six rushing touchdowns while finishing with 526 rushing yards on 103 carries. As for the receivers, Zachariah Branch was Stockton’s clear favorite target. Branch recorded a team best 811 yards on 81 receptions, and he recorded six touchdowns. Colbie Young finished second on the team with 358 receiving yards, while London Humphreys, Dillon Bell, Oscar Delp, and Noah Thomas all recorded more than 250 receiving yards each.

As for the Bulldogs’ defense, they ranked 14th in the country in yards allowed per game. They allowed just 298 YPG, and they held their opponents to just 17.6 PPG. CJ Allen led the team with 88 tackles, while also adding 3.5 sacks, four pass deflections, and two forced fumbles. KJ Bolden finished second on the team with 76 tackles, while also recording five pass deflections and two interceptions. Chris Cole led the Bulldogs with 4.5 sacks, Daylen Everette led the team with eight pass deflections, and Ellis Robinson IV led the way with four interceptions.

Georgia Bulldogs Key Additions/Losses

The Bulldogs rank eighth in the country in returning production heading into this season. They are bringing back over 60% of the offensive production, and their 72% return mark on defense is the fifth highest in the country. Despite the favorable returning production of 68%, they did lose some significant players from last year’s squad. Offensive tackle Monroe Freeling was drafted in the first round, while defensive lineman Christien Miller and Allen were drafted in the second round. Delp, Branch, and Everette followed in the third round while Young and offensive lineman Micah Morris were drafted in the later rounds of the draft. The team also lost significant defensive transfers in cornerback Dominick Kelly, edge rusher Elo Modozie, and safety Joenel Aguero.

In addition to the favorable returning production, the Bulldogs also brought in a solid transfer class. They replaced the trio of top defensive transfers with edge rusher Amaris Williams (Auburn) and safeties Ja’Marley Riddle (East Carolina) and Khalil Barnes (Clemson). The Bulldogs also added wide receiver Isiah Canion (Georgia Tech), quarterback Bryson Beaver (Oregon), running back Dante Dowdell (Kentucky), and offensive tackle TyQuez Richardson (Alabama A&M).

2026 Georgia Bulldogs Schedule Breakdown

The schedule is tough for Georgia heading into the season. Now that the SEC is playing nine conference games, the path to another conference championship is much harder. They open the season with three easy games against Tennessee State and Western Kentucky at home and then on the road against Arkansas. After that, it is anything but easy. Their remaining home schedule includes games against Oklahoma, Vanderbilt, Auburn, Missouri, and Georgia Tech. They also have their annual neutral site game with Florida, and road games against Alabama, Ole Miss, and South Carolina all of whom are going to be eyeing a college football playoff appearance. Their Bye Week isn’t in the best placement either as they end their season with a five-game stretch of Florida, at Ole Miss, Missouri, at South Carolina, and Georgia Tech.

2026 Georgia Bulldogs X-Factors/Big Questions

Can Gunner Stockton be a championship caliber quarterback?

In seven games against ranked opponents last season, Stockton averaged just 197.3 passing yards per game. He did post a 5-2 record in those games, but he didn’t win the one that mattered most, the one that kept Georgia from returning to the National Championship. He needs to continue to elevate his play, protect the ball, and not fizzle out down the stretch like he did last season.

Can the Bulldogs adjust to the new conference schedule?

Adding one more conference game in the SEC is going to be tough for all the teams in the conference, but it especially impacts the ones that are at the top. All of this will be assessed by the playoff committee but every coach for Georgia, Texas, Alabama, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, and LSU would rather just go through their schedule and win the conference championship in order to secure a guaranteed spot. The issue is, there will be a lot of these top tier programs with two or three losses. The committee has essentially guaranteed a spot for Notre Dame, so the at-large bids are reduced. It is a tough turn of events for the conference, and the aforementioned teams are going to pay for it. Georgia just has to avoid being one of the few that get left out.

2026 Georgia Bulldogs Predictions:

The schedule is tough, but Georgia is experienced and their defense has reloaded. At +900 to win the National Championship there is a lot of value for a flier pick, even if you aren’t confident. They should win at least 10 games, especially with the regression of Alabama. They have plenty of time to get ready for their home showdown against Oklahoma and as long as they don’t trip up along the way, their two road tests against Alabama and Ole Miss are the only potential losses on paper. Even losing those two games would still result in the over on the win total. Georgia will take care of business at home and finished the season with at least 10 wins, clinching a playoff spot along the way, and could even appear in the conference championship again this season.
