NCAA Football Predictions: Week 10 Opening Line Report and Picks

The first College Football Playoff rankings arrive this week, but the betting market often tells a different story than the committee. Rankings create public perception, while point spreads reflect what oddsmakers are actually willing to risk money on. As November begins, several highly regarded teams find themselves laying surprisingly modest numbers, while others continue to receive more respect from bettors than their week-to-week performances might warrant.
This is one of my favorite points of the season because recency bias becomes a major factor. A team that looked dominant last Saturday suddenly attracts public support, while a team that survived an ugly win is treated as if it has serious flaws. More often than not, the truth falls somewhere in the middle. The best opportunities usually come from identifying where perception has moved faster than reality.

The Coaching Carousel Takes Another Turn
Mike Norvell became the latest Power Four coach to lose his job after Florida State's season continued to spiral. Just three years earlier, he had guided the Seminoles to a 13-0 record and an ACC championship, only to watch them get controversially left out of the College Football Playoff despite going undefeated. The program never recovered from that snub, and Norvell departs with Florida State having failed to build on its 2023 success. The Seminoles now have one of the country's most attractive jobs open and are expected to draw significant interest as the coaching carousel heats up.
Phil Longo also found himself out of work after Sam Houston elected to make a change. Longo arrived with a reputation as one of the sport's more innovative offensive minds, but the Bearkats never found consistent success under his leadership. With the season slipping away and little remaining to play for beyond pride, Sam Houston chose to begin the search process early rather than wait until December.
The two situations could not have been more different. One involves a traditional national brand with championship expectations, while the other comes from a program still trying to establish itself at the FBS level. The result, however, was the same. Once November arrives, athletic directors start looking ahead to next season, and the carousel rarely slows down once it starts moving.
GAMES
UCLA -6.5 at Minnesota, Huntington Bank Stadium (Saturday, Nov. 7, Noon ET)
Minnesota has been competitive for most of the season, but this matchup asks a lot of a team that has struggled to generate offense against quality opponents consistently. UCLA enters undefeated for a reason. The Bruins have been one of the more complete teams in the country, winning with defense, limiting mistakes, and rarely putting themselves in bad situations. Minnesota's physical style and home-field advantage should keep things close early, but UCLA has shown it can wear opponents down over four quarters. The Bruins are deeper on both sides of the ball, and that advantage should become increasingly evident as the game progresses. A tight first half feels likely, but UCLA has the profile of a team that can create late separation.
PICK: UCLA -6.5
Boston College +6.5 vs Florida State, Alumni Stadium (Saturday, Nov. 7, Noon ET)
Florida State has enough talent to win, but asking the Seminoles to cover nearly a touchdown on the road feels ambitious given their week-to-week inconsistency. Boston College has been a far tougher opponent at home than its overall record might suggest, and the Eagles have the kind of physical defensive front that can make life uncomfortable for opposing quarterbacks. The Seminoles have struggled to put teams away this season, while Boston College has routinely found ways to stay within striking distance deep into the fourth quarter. In a matchup that figures to be decided by a handful of key possessions, taking the points with the home underdog offers more value than laying them with a team that has yet to establish much road reliability.
PICK: Boston College +6.5
Delaware -2.5 at Kennesaw State, Fifth Third Stadium (Saturday, Nov. 7, 3:00 p.m. ET)
Delaware appears to be finding its footing after a shaky start, bringing momentum into a matchup against a Kennesaw State team that continues to struggle putting together complete performances. The Blue Hens have shown better offensive balance in recent weeks and should be able to attack a defense that has struggled to get off the field. Kennesaw State has been competitive in stretches, but the Owls have repeatedly struggled when forced to play from behind, and Delaware has enough offensive versatility to create that scenario. With the number below a field goal, backing the team that has played more consistent football and is in better form feels like the right side. Delaware doesn't need to dominate. It simply needs to continue trending in the direction it has over the last few weeks.
PICK: Delaware -2.5
