NFL Futures Prediction From Strike Point Sports:
Take Houston Texans ‘Over’ 9.5 Wins (+100)
The Houston Texans were an average football team and won 10 games last year. Their biggest issue was their offensive line, and yes, it’s still not great but it will be improved. The Texans offense will be more efficient and their defense will make the necessary adjustments to be even better. Houston should once again be the best team in the AFC South so that gives them a 4-2 record, at worst there. The NFC and AFC West are the cross overs for the South this season and although they have some good teams that isn’t a daunting task. At worst I see that as a 5-3 record. This would give Houston 9 wins. The Texans would need to find one more win out of Buffalo, Baltimore, and Tampa Bay. This is a tough task but at worst I like them to get a win here getting Houston to 10 wins. The games that will have the biggest impact (Buffalo, San Francisco, and Denver), are all in Houston, which is huge for this seasons win total. Give me the Texans at OVER 9.5. MLB Prediction From Vernon Croy:
Take ‘Under’ Cincinnati at Pittsburgh (6:40 p.m., Thursday, August 7)
Now let's get to your MLB comp play for Thursday August 7th, 2025, between the Cincinnati Reds and Pittsburgh Pirates. Cincinnati sends Singer to the mound and he is coming off a solid start against Atlanta where he gave up no earned runs in six innings of work with ten strikeouts and just one walk. Pittsburgh sends Skenes to the mound and he has an ERA of just 2.00 over his last five starts. This is also a nice bounce back spot for Skenes, who gave up four earned runs in his last outing. So we are taking Cincinnati and Pittsburgh to go under the total runs here Thursday. If you don’t have an account at Doc’s Sports sign up now and get $60 in premium member picks click here. NFL Preseason Prediction From Strike Point Sports:
Take #111 Detroit (-4) over Atlanta (7 p.m., Friday, August 8)
I like the Lions here as they already have a preseason game under their belt. Yes they were embarrassed in the Hall of Fame game, and you can tell the preseason isn’t a huge deal, but they are professionals, and losing like that stings a bit. Atlanta is going to sit most of their starters in this game and Easton Stick should handle the reps under center. Kyle Allen and Hendon Hooker are not good, but they will play better here. These two are all about trying to secure a spot on this Lions offense and they know that an improved performance is a must. The Lions were out of that Hall of Fame game from the opening whistle as they turned the ball over too many times. They won’t do that again here and they will come away with a win and a cover in the “first week” of the preseason. NFL Preseason Prediction From Jason Sharpe:
Take #111 Detroit (-4) over Atlanta (7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 8)
Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell was really upset by how sloppy his team played last week in Hall of Fame as they were beat by a 34-7 score by the LA Chargers. The game was a lot closer than that, though, as the Lions were done in by a -5 turnover margin in the contest. Look for Campbell and his team to put a little more effort into this one here. Lay the points with Detroit here. If you don’t have an account at Doc’s Sports sign up now and get $60 in premium member picks click here. MLB Prediction From Robert Ferringo:
Take San Diego over Boston (10 p.m., Friday, Aug. 8)
Solid win here with Toronto last Saturday and I am now 53-25 (69%) with my last 77 Doc’s Sports newsletter plays. We have racked up 79 of 116 wins in this space (69%) and I am 124-66 (65%) with my newsletter plays over the last 190 weeks. It is tough to bet against a hot team here, but I think the Red Sox are going to come back down to earth sooner rather than later. They had won seven straight and nine of 10 heading into Wednesday’s action. But the Padres aren’t far behind, winning 8 of 10 themselves. Boston has only played out on San Diego one time since 2019 so this is completely unfamiliar territory. Nick Pivetta is on the mound for the Padres, and he has allowed one or fewer runs in six of his last seven starts. He is going to be chomping at the bit to get a crack at his former team. Boston is trotting out Walker Buehler and the Padres are very familiar with him from his time with the Dodgers. Buehler has allowed three or more runs in eight of his last 10 starts and has been a pinata all season long. I like the Padres to open the series with a win. MLB Prediction From Griffin Murphy:
Take Detroit (-1.5) over L.A. Angels (1:40 p.m., Sunday, August 10)
Detroit is presently 65-48 on the season and is holding a huge gap in the AL Central as they are currently leading the division. Detroit comes into this game 6th when it comes to offensive runs per game, 13th in team batting average, 7th in slugging percentage, and 8th in home runs. Los Angeles's biggest issue all season long has been their pitching. The Angels are 25th in baseball when it comes to runs allowed against, 26th in team ERA with a posted 4.58, and 26th against the home run. This Tigers offense is a powerhouse, and we expect them to erupt in this Sunday afternoon game. Let’s snag the Tigers at home here on the run line, as we expect this to be a one-sided game. Soccer Prediction From Doc's Sports:
Take Guadalajara (-135) over Santos (10 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 10)
As of this writing, Santos has been eliminated from Leagues Cup action, while Chivas will be soon. So this match is likely to take place on Sunday. Guadalajara is the only side in the Liga that has played two matches so far, so Santos is ahead of them on the table but Chivas can take a big leap over them with three points today and start to make their inevitable move up the table. Santos has looked bad lately and this side is a strong candidate to finish at the bottom of the table. They have a four-match losing streak heading into the final meaningless match of Leagues Cup. Guadalajara hasn’t seen great results lately, but they have faced a stronger slate of opponents and they have performed much better than their counterparts here on Sunday. Chivas won’t be happy with anything but three points in this match. Chivas have taken points in nine of ten meetings, and they won decisively in their last visit to Santos. We see another one-sided match here. If you don’t have an account at Doc’s Sports sign up now and get $60 in premium member picks click here. College Football Futures Prediction From Robert Ferringo:
Take Oklahoma State ‘Over’ 5.5 Wins (+135)
I am willing to give Mike Gundy the benefit of the doubt. Last season’s 3-9 mark was the worst in Gundy’s 20-year coaching career. In fact, Gundy has only had two losing seasons his entire career: his rookie season in 2005 and last year. Gundy cleaned house, bringing in 43 new scholarship players. There is a ton of uncertainty surrounding this program because of that. But it has created a value opportunity. I love the fact that Gundy cleaned house. And I don’t think the guy has forgotten how to coach. I mean, Oklahoma State had won 10 or more games five times in the previous 10 years prior to last season’s mess. And a big part of last year’s mess was terrible quarterback play, with three different guys combining to complete less than 60 percent of their passes for 20 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. I think they will be better at that position and I also like the new OC and DC that Gundy has tapped. The Cowboys will pull two easy wins in the nonconference (UT-Martin, Tulsa). That means they only need four conference wins to get this ticket cashed. They have the benefit of five home Big 12 games, and Stillwater is still a tough place for opponents to win. Oklahoma State also has winnable road games at Arizona, Central Florida and Kansas. Just one road win (I think they can get two; OKST has averaged 2.4 road wins over the last five years) means they will have to get three home wins in league play to get home. The teams picked at the bottom of the Big 12 last season all exceeded expectations and this is one that I think can do it again. Take the Cowboys to get ‘over’ 5.5 wins.
