Villanova Wildcats Odds to Win the 2015 NCAA Tournament with Picks and Predictions
by George Monroy - 3/9/2015
The Villanova Wildcats captured the Big East title with a dominating blowout over St. John's during the final weekend of the regular season. The Wildcats, with a 28-2 record and 12 straight wins on their resume, believe they have the best team in college basketball and are "playing as well as anybody in the county," a statement which includes Villanova's Wildcat counterpart in Kentucky, according to coach Jay Wright.
No. 3 Villanova is coming off a string of poor NCAA Tournament performances and has not produced a deep postseason run since 2009, when the school last made a Final Four appearance. Coach Wright has the Wildcats playing dominating basketball on both ends of the floor just when the team needs it most-a Big East Tournament win will likely lead to a No. 1 seed in it's the NCAA bracket. Let's take a closer look at Villanova's national title odds with predictions and analysis.
2015 Villanova Wildcats National Title Story lines
Villanova ended the regular season with bang, dominating St. John's to the tune of a 105-68 victory, while receiving a pair of excellent performances from Daniel Ochefu and JayVaughn Pinkston, who scored 21 and 18 points apiece, respectively, during the win. The Wildcats ended the season with the most wins in the school's history and will now try to cap off that spectacular regular-season run capturing a Big East tournament title in New York next weekend.
Villanova's major aspirations go far beyond its conference tournament and into the one that matters most, the NCAA bracket. The team has not advanced out of the first weekend in over five years and has just two tournament wins during that span. Coach Wright and his squad, however, believe they have the right type of balance-five players scored in double figures against St John's and six average more than nine points per game-on both ends of the court to bring that disappointing streak to an end.
2015 Villanova Wildcats National Title Odds and ATS Trends
Villanova is currently receiving the sixth-best national title odds at +1800, according to Sportsbook.ag, and is leading the pack amongst the second-tier contenders who are receiving +1800 odds or better. The Wildcats have been spectacular against the spread and ended the year with a 22-8 ATS record and an even more impressive 12-3 mark at home. The squad also produced a 14-15-1 totals mark but did go "over" in seven of 11 road matchups this season and has covered nine of its last 10 spreads.
2015 Villanova Wildcats National Title Odds and Predictions
If momentum has anything to do with how a team performs heading into the NCAA Tournament then Villanova might be the favorite to win it all. The squad has simply been dominant over the last 12 games, while the other top teams in the nation have struggled to produce wins and even lost games outright. Kentucky may be undefeated, but the team has multiple scares over the last two weeks and needed to dig deep in order to get those victories.
Villanova has two top-level players in Pinkston and Ochefu but also has a well-balanced roster of players that contribute, play defense and understand their roles on the team. Even if the Wildcards are not the most talented group in the nation, they might have the most chemistry. Villanova is on the short list of legitimate contenders, and getting +1800 odds is a solid wager to make.
