The NBA is off to a fast start with four undefeated teams remaining as of Dec. 29. Those undefeated teams are all teams you’d least expect at the top, including the Cleveland Cavaliers, Orlando Magic, Atlanta Hawks and the Indiana Pacers. After a week in, we can all tell that this season is going to be full of surprises. Here are the leans for December 30’s NBA slate.

Grizzlies vs Celtics 12/30/20 (TBD, TBD)

The Grizzlies finished their game against the Nets, who were without Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, with a win in overtime. During the game, Ja Morant was wheeled off with an ankle injury. Looks like he will be out a month-plus. The Celtics haven’t been great offensively to start the season, but that should soon change against the Grizzlies, who have allowed 121.3 points per game to start the year.

Key trends: Boston and Memphis are 1-2 on the over this season

Early lean: Celtics, Over

Hawks vs Nets 12/30/20 (-6.5, 240.5)

The Hawks can score. This is the deepest Hawks team we’ve seen in recent memory. They’ll take on, hands down, the deepest Brooklyn Nets roster of all time with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant expected to both be good in this one. The Hawks are scoring 124.7 points per game to start the year and have so many young weapons. They’re still without some players and putting on show after show. The Nets will likely defend a bit better and come out on top, but don’t be surprised if the Hawks at least hang around.

Key trends: Over is 6-1 in Hawks last 7 games playing on 1 days rest.

Early lean: Hawks, Over

Bucks vs Heat 12/30/20 (TBD, TBD)

Jimmy Butler didn’t play on Tuesday but could be available for the Heat in this one. That would be crucial off a back-to-back, having a rested Jimmy Butler able to get in and play a solid amount of minutes. So far, the Bucks haven’t been impressive, starting the season with a losing record in their first three games. However, things will start to click. Let’s not forget that the Bucks were the best regular season team last year. They’re going to be near the top again this season. They’ll just need to play better defense.

Key trends: The Heat are 9-3 ATS (6.62 ppg) since Aug 10, 2020 at home.

Early lean: Heat, Under

Lakers vs Spurs 12/30/20 (+6.5, 230.5)

The Spurs have looked solid to start the season behind DeMar DeRozan, who is averaging 21 points per game thus far. Defense has been solid, but the offense as a whole could be better. The Lakers offense is averaging 120.3 points per game but haven’t really had a full healthy team play together to start the season. If Anthony Davis and LeBron James are both a go in this one, I see no reason why the Lakers would lose this one.

Key trends: Under is 23-11 in the last 34 meetings in San Antonio.

Early lean: Lakers, Under

Trail Blazers vs Clippers 12/30/20 (TBD, TBD)

Kawhi Leonard didn’t play against the Mavericks a couple days ago, and the Clippers paid for it, losing 124-73. It’s unclear how long Kawhi will be out. But if he’s healthy, this team will play a whole lot better. On the other hand, the Blazers have started off the season hot with back-to-back wins against the Rockets and Lakers after losing to the Utah Jazz in their first game. CJ McCollum has been shooting plenty of shots and averages 29 points per game. He’s going to be a key factor when it comes to how far this team goes in the regular season and potentially the playoffs. I like Portland to hang around.

Key trends: The Clippers are 0-4 ATS (-27.62 ppg) since Sep 05, 2020 at home.
