2026 Washington Wizards Predictions with Best Bets and Odds to Win NBA Championship

The Washington Wizards have been right at the bottom of the barrel for several years, posting an unbelievable combined record of 50-196 across the last three seasons. Bad luck in the NBA draft lottery has been one of the reasons their tank has extended longer than anticipated, as they are still searching for their first playoff series victory in a decade. The optimism is marginally higher heading into the new year, but can the Wizards actually make an unfamiliar climb up the standings?

Washington Wizards Offseason Recap
Washington got aggressive in the offseason in an attempt to start challenging for a playoff spot. That dream got one step closer to reality when they won the NBA draft lottery, allowing them to select AJ Dybantsa with the first overall pick. Dybantsa led the country with 25.5 PPG, giving the Wizards a blue-chip centerpiece to build the team around. He is an elite downhill scorer with the size at 6-foot-9 to bully defenders, especially since he will need to do less dirty work in the paint with tall big men around him. His explosiveness is what makes him difficult to slow down, as Dybantsa can blow past defenders with ease, but can also stop on a dime and pull up in the midrange. He got to the line a ton in college as the defense’s only option to stop him was to foul, as he was excellent in creating space not only in the pick-and-roll, but in isolation too. On the defensive end, his athleticism once again came into play, as he can guard multiple positions and is rarely outmuscled. The one flaw in his game is the three-point shot, as he only drained 33.1% of his attempts. If NBA defenders sag off him and cut underneath screens, Dybantsa may struggle to find the same rhythm from inside the arc.
The Wizards weren’t done there, as they also retooled the rest of their roster around their high draft picks. Khris Middleton is returning to Washington after being traded at the deadline last year, while they also traded for Tre Mann and Deandre Ayton. Middleton will have as much of an impact off the court as he will on, providing excellent leadership for a franchise missing a clear direction. The Wizards scooped up Ayton at a discount for Jaden Hardy and a pair of second round picks, and there is real optimism the Bahamian center will provide stability behind Anthony Davis.
Speaking of Davis, while he wasn’t technically an offseason addition, he didn’t suit up for Washington last year and is ready to make his team debut this season. Davis is a ten-time All-Star with 24.0 PPG, 10.7 rebounds, 1.3 steals, and 2.3 blocks across his 14-year career, and is a real difference maker when healthy. He has finished in the top-four for Defensive Player of the Year in four different seasons, and is still dangerous at 33 years old. His physical play in the paint will help a Washington team that could not rebound the ball last year, and his scoring punch will help take some of the pressure off their rising stars. Davis has only played 71 games across the last two seasons, so health remains a real concern.
Another star that is technically not an offseason addition is Trae Young, who suited up for five games last year before being shut down. Young inked a four-year, $212 million deal in the offseason, and is one of the best facilitators in the league. He fell out of favor with the Hawks faithful during the tail end of his tenure in Atlanta, but his 9.8 assists with 25.1 PPG across his career speak for themselves. His dreadful defense is a concern, but the Wizards have other defensive minds on the roster to make up for it.
2026 Washington Wizards Season Expectations
This Wizards side will look very different from previous editions of this team. Alexander Sarr, Kyshawn George, Bub Carrington, and Bilal Coulibaly are the remaining relevant prospects from the Wizards rebuild, with the rest of the rotation featuring fresh faces. Sarr still has the highest ceiling at 21 years old having played two seasons in the league, but time is running out for him to make an impact before Washington pulls the plug. Coulibaly and Carrington have shown flashes that they could be great, but those have been too few and far between. The Wizards will be pleased with the production they have gotten from 24th pick Kyshawn George up to this point in his career, as he is a well-rounded shooting guard with no real flaws to his game.
There are so many question marks around this team that it is hard to be too confident in what we will see from them this year. Can Davis and Young stay healthy? Will Dybantsa live up to expectations? How will the veterans and prospects gel? Can Washington actually win games? It would not be surprising to see the rebuild completely blow up in the Wizards’ face and send them back to the bottom of the standings, but it would also not be surprising to see them reach the playoffs and potentially even win a playoff series. That is the beauty of a brand new season, and we will bet accordingly.
2026 Washington Wizards Schedule Breakdown
The Wizards open up the season with a very winnable game against the Bucks at home, before hosting Kawhi Leonard and the Toronto Raptors. They then hit the road with eight of their next ten away from home, including tough trips to Cleveland, Oklahoma City, Detroit, and a homecoming for Trae Young in Atlanta. The Wizards will get to spend the holidays at home, as a trio of home games through the Christmas period will be much appreciated. In fact, the Wizards only have two road games in a three and a half week span starting in late December. They end the season with a four game road trip to Orlando, Memphis, New Orleans, and Miami before hosting the Pistons in the season finale.
2026 Washington Wizards Betting Odds
The Wizards have gone 50-196 across the last three seasons, but things are expected to change for the better with a win total of 34.5 this year. That is very attainable for this talented roster if their injury-prone stars can stay upright, but the playoffs may be a different story. Washington has +300 odds to make the playoffs and -375 odds to fall short, with +190 odds to participate in the play-in tournament. They have the 12th-longest odds to win the Eastern Conference at +7000, and are a sky-high +15000 to win the NBA championship.
In the NBA Cup, Washington is alongside the Celtics, Hawks, Hornets, and Bulls in East Group C, with +550 odds to come out on top. They have +2000 odds to reach the Final and +7000 odds to win the NBA Cup.
2026 Washington Wizards Season Predictions and Best Bets
The Washington Wizards are the textbook example of a ‘boom or bust’ team. If things go right, a winning record or even more is within reach. If things go sideways, right back to the bottom of the standings they will go. This means there is no point in taking -110 odds on either side of the win total, and instead to hunt for longer odds.
For the first two picks, we will take 40+ wins at +240 and 45+ wins at +700. The Eastern Conference is expected to have 11-12 legitimate contenders this year, which means the playoff race may get very crowded down the stretch. If that is the case, I would much rather have the 40+ ticket at +240 than a +300 playoff ticket that requires Washington to survive the play-in tournament with a .500 record. If they can stay healthy and build early chemistry, a fresh roster is capable of putting up a winning record, and the odds make it worthwhile to sprinkle.
For the third pick, we will take AJ Dybantsa to win Rookie of the Year at +410. I am a bit surprised that Dybantsa is fourth on the list, especially since he will get plenty of playing time and the Wizards are expected to be somewhat competitive. His dominant style of play will let him put up points in a hurry, which is often the biggest factor over assists or defense in selecting the Rookie of the Year. A few highlights will get Dybantsa on the radar of voters, and this award is well within reach for the first overall draft pick.
Top Pick: Washington Wizards 40+ Wins +240
Pick: Washington Wizards 45+ Wins +700
Pick: AJ Dybantsa to Win Rookie of the Year +410
