2026 Utah Jazz Predictions with Best Bets and Odds to Win NBA Championship

The Utah Jazz have been tanking for the last four years since blowing things up in 2022, and are now ready to emerge from their rebuild with a talented core. Four straight losing seasons with a combined 39-125 over the last two years has tested this fanbase, but they are hoping to be rewarded for their patience heading into the new season. Their incredibly aggressive tanking last year resulted in them being fined, but it paid off when they jumped up in the draft lottery to second overall. Have the Jazz found the right recipe for success, or will Utah make it a fifth straight season without playoff basketball?

Utah Jazz Offseason Recap
The Utah Jazz got aggressive at the trade deadline last year in acquiring former Defensive Player of the Year Jaren Jackson Jr. for a discounted price, allowing them to take things slow this offseason. Their primary change is adding Darryn Peterson with the second overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, who is expected to slot right into the starting lineup in Utah. Peterson was an elite scorer at the collegiate level and his game should translate to immediate success in the NBA. He put up 22.7 PPG on 48.9% from the floor and 40.8% from deep, and never backed down from an isolated defender. What makes Peterson such an intriguing prospect is that unlike other high draft picks who used their physicality to dominate undersized opponents, Peterson relied on natural skill to get the ball in the hoop. He is a smooth three-level scorer who can dribble past defenders, pull up in the midrange, or knock it down from deep. There are concerns about his decision making as Peterson would try to play through double teams rather than passing the ball, but that will improve as he matures and gets coached by the best basketball minds in the world. His length makes up for his lack of verticality on defense, and he will instantly make the Jazz better from the opening tip of the new season.
Utah added a few veterans in Josh Green, Josh Okogie, and Jaxson Hayes, with the primary goal to be aiding their leaky defense. Green and Okogie are both excellent at defending multiple positions, and the Jazz have enough scoring pop around them to offset their lackluster PPG numbers. Jusuf Nurkic will miss at least the first month of the season with a foot injury while Walker Kessler is no longer on the Jazz, which means Hayes will be called on early as the backup center.
2026 Utah Jazz Season Expectations
This is the first year in a while the Jazz have legitimate playoff hopes after being a laughing stock for the last several seasons. They have a few reliable veterans to help develop their young stars, and are certainly a team to watch this year. Lauri Markkanen was held to just 42 games due to an alleged injury last year, but he is miraculously healthy now that the Jazz want to win, and will be the offensive leader of this team. He scored 26.7 PPG last season for the most of his career, and also stepped up his defensive game, averaging one steal per night. At 29 years old, he is in the middle of his prime, and now is the time for the Jazz to make the most of it.
Utah will be able to score with Markkanen, Ace Bailey, Keyonte George, and Peterson all set to start, and it will be up to Jackson Jr. to hold down the fort on the other end. Jackson Jr. is a worthy scorer himself with 18.6 PPG across his eight-year career, but the Jazz didn’t give up four players and three first-round picks for his play on offense. Utah is in desperate need of defensive support, and Jackson Jr. has already proven he can make a real impact on that end. He averages more than two blocks a game, which gives him a presence in the paint, but he also rarely gets caught on an island in the open floor. His ability to switch onto forwards is what makes him so valuable, and he will unquestionably be the leader of the Jazz on that end of the floor.
Utah’s stars missed time last year with injuries, as Jackson Jr. played three games, Markkanen 42 games, and George 54 games, but that doesn’t excuse a historically bad defense. Utah had the second-worst defensive rating in the league, and things somehow got even worse from behind the arc. Utah’s opponents took 45.1% of their attempts from behind the arc, the most in the league, and 59% of those attempts were wide-open, also the most. Their 15.3 threes allowed per game was not only the most in the NBA, but it was the most allowed threes in a single season since the three point line was introduced. The fact they played at the third-fastest pace helped bump up that total, but it was no surprise to see the losses pile up when they were allowing triples all game long.
2026 Utah Jazz Schedule Breakdown
The Utah Jazz open up the year on the road in Memphis before heading home for the next five games. The Jazz have a pretty unremarkable schedule with their longest road trip lasting five games, and one six-game homestand in March being their longest stretch in Utah. One thing to watch out for is how the Jazz close out the season, as their final six games are against the Trail Blazers (twice), Thunder, Pelicans, Clippers, and Warriors. With five of those six teams expected to be in or below the play-in tournament, there could be massive contests to determine where the Jazz end up.
2026 Utah Jazz Betting Odds
The Utah Jazz have a win total of 37.5 this year, which is a massive upgrade after collecting 39 wins in the last two seasons combined. The arrival of another high draft pick in Peterson combined with a defensive anchor in Jackson Jr. can justify an increase, but a massive jump is hard for any franchise regardless of the turnover. Looking to the playoffs, the Jazz have +115 odds to participate in the play-in tournament to go along with +120 odds to make the playoffs and -150 odds to fall short. Although the Jazz may make the playoffs, a deep run looks out of the question with +8000 odds to win the West and +15000 odds to win the championship.
In the NBA Cup, the Jazz find themselves in an interesting group with the Nuggets, Rockets, Suns, and Mavericks. They avoid the Thunder and Spurs, the two favorites, and have a realistic shot at pulling off an upset with +550 odds to come out on top and +8000 odds to win the NBA Cup.
2026 Utah Jazz Season Predictions and Best Bets
The Utah Jazz will be better than their 22-60 record from last year, but expecting a 15+ win jump is too much to ask. The Jazz defense will be better with Jackson Jr., but that doesn’t really help their biggest flaw which was closing down the three point line. The offensive talent is there, but that will not matter when they are getting lit up from deep. For the first pick, we will take Utah to finish under 37.5 wins.
For the second pick, and one I like even more, we will take Utah to miss the playoffs at -150 odds. It is a bit confusing to see Utah’s play-in tournament odds and playoff qualification odds at the same number. The Jazz are underdogs to qualify for the play-in tournament not because they are going to finish 5th or 6th in the West, but rather since they will be clawing their way to play any sort of meaningful basketball late in the season. Even if the Jazz make the play-in, it will probably be via the 9th or 10th seed, which puts our -150 odds to miss the playoffs in a good spot. One of these markets is clearly mispriced, giving us a great value spot at -150 odds.
Pick: Utah Jazz Under 37.5 Wins
Top Pick: Utah Jazz to Miss the Playoffs -150
